A great place to meet nice people from different countries, a few steps from the sea but a bit hidden. The atmosphere very nice and the staff very helpful, especially Gama who is really friendly with hosters.

This place was the highlight of my trip to Mexico. The location is amazing and has a private path to the beach. The rooms were clean and comfy. Everyone I met was amazing and we had some awesome times. A special nod goes to the manager there, Gama, who showed us all around Playa del Carmen and seemed to know everyone. Because of him, I\'ve had one of my best vacations ever. Highly recommended!

Everyone at Popol Vuh were very friendly and helpful with recommending tours, activities and bars to vist. We had to extend our stay by 3 nights as it was too good t leave, the beach is literally at your doorstep, and the atmosphere is great. Highly recommended. Thanks Popol Vuh for such a great time! - 3 Aussie girls!

A very basic, chilled beach hostel. A sparse kitchen and no lockers. We got some mean looks for leaving our bags until catching our overnight bus, although the first hostel employee said it was fine. "Check out was at 12, why are you here?" Quiet and easy to meet people. Unbelievably close to the beach (and all the insects).

The guys here were great Definitely recommend it! Tours are a bit expensive, especially the Xplor tour but other than that, brilliant! Breakfast was great too!

I love this place for its quiet location yet central. This is my third stay here and feels like home. Open community kitchen with everything you need and kept tidy. I was a bit disapointed that the hot water was disfuntional for awhile, but thats not normal. It works for my budget...

Couldn't have made a better choice for our stay. The location was mint. Atmosphere was very relaxed and made it easy to make new friends on the way. Special thanks goes to the staff which was awesome and always ready to help. And Gama, you are the man!

Best location in Playa del Carmen a place that can't figure out if it is a beach or a mall.... I'll never go to this overly comercial town again, I prefer Mexico, this ain't Mexico!

Things were great. Thanks!

This was a great hostel. A little noisy when the partiers are getting home from the bar but it is short lived and rather typical of a hostel. Everybody seemed to gather around the outdoor eating area around dinner and have a few cold ones until about 10. Those who were going out went and those that weren't headed to bed. They had nice new mattresses in the dorm. The staff is friendly and you cannot beat the distance to the beach - half a block. (It is right across the road from the restaurant).

This is a wonderful hostel, full of energy and great people. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Our room was clean and secure... and of course it's just a few steps from the beach! I would recommend Popol Vuh to anyone, but especially for folks looking for a social experience in Playa.

Paying 50USD for the Cabana is just not worth it. Definitely great location, BUT stained linen; holes in the towels; windows can’t be safely closed (shutters broken), wind blows sand in which covers the whole room; most of the time only cold water; got a shower head only on the last night. Kitchen facilities not very clean, washing up liquid non-existent. We know it is not a 5 star hotel, but we have been travelling for over 5 months & we feel it was the worst place concerning “value for money”.
