Tony was super helpful giving me tips on places to go and things to do. The internet worked great and the common area was really nice for hanging out. Note that free breakfast is only on weekdays. The location is kind of far from Chinatown/Little India, but there is a very convenient bus nearby. The location is nice if you like to exercise; a short walk from a beach-front park.

There needs to be an active team approach. I was told different things by different staff. It was quite hard to work out the bus route until I was shown by the owner a big map with the whole route carefully presented. Then it was so easy to get around. Another staff member borrowed my A/C remote from my locked room for testing in another room, and didn't return it. I looked averywhere for it, and then when I mentioned that I didn't have it, it was nonchantlenty returned to me with out an apology

The only problem with this place was that the showers were in rooms with the toilets, so if anyone took a shower in there everything was wet. Otherwise, the staff was super helpful and the food tour was definitely worth it. Breakfast was good, but weekend breakfast was amazing.

The staff were incredibly helpful in planning my days and even educating me on the history and culture of Singapore. Thank you! This made my trip a thousand times more meaningful.

This is a really good hostel its clean for the most part but the showers and toilets are a bit old. The rooms were clean and I appreciated the aircon which was run during the evening so you could get to sleep in the heat. The location was good for me I dont mind that I wasn't right in the central city. The area Joo Chiat is quite nice in itself and theres lots to eat around and you can always walk to the beach which is awesome for a sunset!! Thanks for all your insider tips i had a great stay :)

We stayed in the double room, not the shared bed room. Our room wasn't all that clean. Staff was wonderful.

Because the hostel is just 1 door, it was difficult to find. Maybe a bigger sign on the outside? The room was to cold! Temperature was 17 degrees on the airco. I putted it warmer, but someone did change it again to 17. Roommates were talking until late at night, and in the early morning others were talking in the room.

Always wonderful to come back this hostel! Feel like I am home. Spacious common room, nice guests and on top of that excellent staff!Close to the airport and easy access to the city and the beach. To have Nyonya/Peranakan food downstairs where run by same owner is must-try when you come to Singapore!!

The place is looking dated and could do with an overhaul. A lot of new hostels have bedside lights, curtains and individual bedside lockers now. People are looking for that level of comfort and security as more are enjoying the idea of hostels rather than hotels. Location is amazing with a lot of good restaurants and heritage trails. Close to a cinema which appeals to those who have been away in the wilds for 3 months volunteering. Not enough showers for the volume of people and they look shabby

Betel Box is a little bit out of the way of most of Singapore's attractions, but that's the best thing about it. I felt like I saw the real Singapore, and Joo Chiat is a neighborhood I wouldn't have ventured to otherwise. Plan your stay so you can attend Tony's Thursday evening food/culture tour -- I learned more in those six hours than I would have from any guidebook. Great place, thanks guys!
