Ahhh Casa Caribe. I loved it here. The private double has a huge balcony with table and chairs&hammock, the room is huge and has a kitchen area (no stove but an electric pan) and there were sloths outside. Location-wise it's right at the Playa Negra end of town so you need to get a cab to Playa Cocles (though it's a pretty cheap one) or go for a very long walk. It's remotely located so not best for surfers/nightlife but it's great for couples -get fresh pineapple at the nearby supermarket!

Beautiful place with amazing, personable, and helpful owners. Just 200 metres outside of town so you're away from the hustle and bustle -- and it feels like you're sleeping open air in the jungle (with windows, a roof and screens, that is)! Huge room and great value for money. Alex also makes a mean gallo pinto. Can't wait to go back!

Perfect location. Short walk from town and steps from the beach. If you are looking for a quite more peaceful place to pass your time, this is it. Alex and Yanira were wonderful! Very helpful and friendly. Rooms are spacious and very clean. Hammocks out front are perfect for relaxing and if you are nice Alex just might grab a pipa for you to rehydrate after a long day at the beach.

We stayed in the deluxe room and we can both easily say that this was the best room we've stayed in during our three months of travelling in South and Central America. Alex was a great host and he made our stay in Puerto Viejo the best. For only $5 he cookes you a wonderful breakfast and he also offered us homecooked dinners. We have already recommended all our friends to stay here if they ever come to Puerto Viejo and I highly recommend you to stay here if you want to have a nice relaxing stay.

Great people and so nice and helpful. If you want somewhere just outside of town it's nice and quiet. Not necessarily ideal for a traveller by themself but with people it's perfect.

I came to Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica on my first solo adventure in hopes to find relaxation, meet wonderful, friendly people, and have an amazing experience. Casa Caribe was my first hostel that I stayed in Casa Caribe which I booked for only 3 days. I ended up coming back after the weekend (since they were booked) because I felt at home and I was given the gift of comfort in a country I was new to. Alex and Yanira made me feel completely welcome and made my first solo adventure, priceless.

Casa Caribe was such an enjoyable stay for us! It was a short walk away from all the noise of the night, in the soothing jungle sounds. The people who run it were very personable and helpful. The room was huge! and clean! We wanted to say longer, but it was booked. Security got a "good" because there weren't always people there, and no lock box. However, the place is not in an area that gets many random people, so it's still safe.

The owners, Alex and Jan, are the nicest people that I met in the entire country. Somehow, my friend and I both knew that staying there would be the highlight of our trip. We were right. It doesn\'t get any better than this.

We had a great time at Casa Caribe, Alex and Yanira were extremely sweet and helpful when it came to enjoying our stay. We were able to rent bikes and surf boards from them for an excellent price, they made us breakfast for $5 each and offered coffee every morning. The room itself was comfortable and clean but the kitchen was small and not entirely full equipped. It had a propane stove and a mini fridge, enough dishes for two people and two pots to cook with. We enjoyed our stay!

Owners Alex and Jan are very personable with their services. Alex offered us coconut, lemonade drinks and coffee. It was very much appreciated. Need to install screen door and windows to keep mosquitoes out in the deluxe room.

Alex and Yanira were awesome. Of the 5 hostels we stayed at in Costa Rica, they were by far the most hospitable. Alex acted as our guide and took us to all the hot spots and even some off the beaten path locations to truly get the Costa Rican/Caribbean experience. The hostel was amazing aswell. We were definitely spoiled. We basically had an entire house to ourselves, with a porch and hammocks. Definatly would recommend this hostel! Hardest part, finding it from the bus stop.
