I really enjoyed Citadel! It is a bit confusing to get to - St. Mark's Street is NOT a street a taxi can drive on. Know that the cheapest "room" means sleeping on the roof. It was great for us, as they provided mattresses and ample amounts of blankets, but keep that in mind as it gets colder. Really cool atmosphere in the Old City. Staff was very helpful.

We stayed in the 3 bedroom. The beds were realy old and bad. Bed number 3 was only a matras. Everything was old and smelly. But it was great to sleep in The Old Town. Close to the Jaffa gate and Jaffa street. So location was excellent.

This is an awesome place to stay in Jerusalem, can be a very cheap option too if you sleep on the roof under the stars. Has everything except a free breakfast but there are cheap options on the doorstep, has a kitchen if you want to self cater. I can't imagine a better place to stay.

The crowd was much older than expected and there were not a lot of common areas to hang out in. The staff was friendly and helpful though, especially Adam.

Do NOT take the 19 dorm room! It's actually sleeping on the roof. It sounds romantic but it is very uncomfortable. they provide you with a mattress full of fleas and no sheets. The next day we upgraded to the 16 dorm room (+ 3 euro), which was perfectly fine.

lonely planet and other critics are liars....., Iam wondering if they are not receiving any "gifts" by this hostel in order to give good opinion.... I was really disappointed, very small, no space at all, no window in the room and dirty.... I do not recommend at all this hostel.....

Thank you so much for your review , but it is not our fault you did not read the description of the reservation you made , please do your research when you travel outside of France ,you are coming to the old city of Jerusalem ,its called the old city because everything in it is in its original state ,the dorm you were in didn't have a window because its cave style in a building that is over 750 years old , i hope you took all that in consideration and to appreciate us canceling your full reservation without even charging you for the rest of it . Thank you

Citadel's location in the Old City is excellent! It's amazing to sit on the roof terrace and see the sunset over the many mosques and churches! It's a bit sad that alcohol is strictly prohibited. They might not want drunk kids making trouble, but a glass of wine with your hummus would be nice. Our double room was small and had no window, the tiny ensuite bathroom had no shower cabin (toilet etc. got wet when showering). The kitchen is a little run down. It's really good value for money though!

great hostel - in the heart of the old city, in a 5 centuries old building, with an exellent rooftop. If you are in Jerusalem for sightseeing - that's the place to stay in.

Amazing decor and good location in the Old City. The free 10 minute internet was so convenient. Not the best kitchen facilities and bathrooms were a bit dodgy but incredible view from the rooftop.

Every sound of botel is with you in the room. The walls are just 2 cm thick.

I found this hostel on Lonely Planet (their choice). The hostel rooms are dirty and they don't have a/c, a closet. The kitchen is useless because of the hygiene status.

If the idea of sleeping in a public washroom is appealing, then Citadel may just be the place for you! Really has that "can't put your hand down on any surface without fear of contracting Hepatitis" feel to it.

There were bed bugs in my bed.

First, they made a double booking of my room, bumping me to a worse room. The bed was deplorable, small, squeaky, and a terrible mattress. The worst of all were the BED BUGS. I could not sleep a single hour, and am now covered in huge red welts. Other guests have complained, and they simply refuse to admit the problem. Also, the cleanliness is terrible, the common area smells quite bad, and so do the bathrooms. A complete DUMP, stay away from this terrible, ill-run barn.
