Mel & Jake really make this place a great hostel to stay at - plenty of cheap & free activities put on every day, knowledgeable about the local area and just a good laugh. Ideal location next to the Greyhound stop, BWS, and Woolsworths; plus great AC in the TV room and the bedrooms. Awesome place for chilling out and seeing some of the local wildlife!
very clean hostel! It is only 15 minutes walk to the ferry, has got free Wifi and is close to Woolworth. The only negativ point was the kitchen which close quite early about 9.30 pm. Altogether I can recommend this place.
Good hostel, but location isn't very convenient
Lovely hostel. Very clean and really friendly staff! Very close to Woolworths. Free wifi, coffee and tea is really nice.
There was nobody on reception when I arrived at 9pm. The double private room was clean and had air conditioning and had a fan and fridge so the room was quite good.
Helpful staff, great kitchen but slightly out of the way.
Stayed for a total of 3 nights and fell in love with the place. The staff is so friendly and the owner takes personal interest in each guest. My room was clean, had AC, it's own bathroom and a mini fridge. Kitchen and common areas are large and tidy. Free wifi was great, as was the nearby Woolworths. Castle Hill hike is 5 mins walk away, and beach is 10-15mins walk. The best part of this hostel is the people. I felt like I was home. Can't wait to come back to the best hostel I've ever stayed in.

hostel is nice and big ,very clean. close enough to the CBD. staff are very friendly and helpful. Free WIFI! Bit hard to meet people as a solo backpacker, had less of a traveler vibe and more of a halfway house vibe.
Great place to stay for a relaxed holidays. Nice movie chillout area and only a 5 min walk to town. Fred xfer service to/from ferry/greyhound terminal was brilliant.
Extremely friendly and helpful owners and all round good hostel
Good hostel, extremely friendly staff and set a welcoming vibe throughout the hostel. Have all the facilities needed, and at a good standard. Wifi has a limited area for social purposes, which is nice to see for a change. They offer a shuttle bus to the coach station, so the location is a little out the way ($10 cab ride) but they're ways around it. Only negative is no lockers in the room I was in.
Awesome hostel. Modern and clean. Very nice owners. Free wifi, air-con. One of the best hostel that i've seen in Australia.

Stayed definitely in better hostels but for a stopover in Townsville it's okay.
Dorms are light and spacious, kitchen and common area are cosy. Hostel was overall very clean and staff and other guests were friendly. Only drawback was that wifi just worked in the hall.
I loved my stay at the civic guest house. I had a private room for the same money for a 4 to 6 dorm room in other hostels. They have free wifi, clean kitchen. Just 5 min to town and pick up/off service for the ferry to magnetic island. Owner was very happy and friendly. The staff was nice to and seem to liked the work they were doing.
Good hostel overall. Good points - clean, good facilities, location good, big kitchen, location good and time it right you get picked up from bus STN Bad points - no lockers in rooms/anywhere sometimes. 2 lockers in one room with 4 people? moved rooms and the next room had no lockers! normally security is good in Australia anyway, but this hostel is fairly large so these are needed. Manager to be fair acknowledged this and is sorting. Kitchen is locked at 9.30pm which is stupid and too early.
Good start, the very lovely owner picked us up & gave us a tour. She advised us the kitchen would be closing at 8.30pm for renovations which was fine however the next morning the kitchen was still closed which made cooking eggs for brekky quite tricky! The cleaning of the bathrooms seemed to take hours and all toilets were cleaned at the same time leaving you crossing your legs until they had finished. The lay out was good but staff could of been a bit friendlier.
Lovely place to stay - nice chilled atmosphere, helpful friendly staff. A great place to relax and unwind before/after the Whitsunday Islands. 5 mins walk from the main street, far enough way to avoid all the party scene but close enough to still get involved!
Good location, friendly staff, good amenities.
