Great hostel. We really appreciated everything being so clean and tidy, with good facilities. There is an excellent communal area and free Wifi available there. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone who wishes to stay in Townsville.

staff were incredibly friendly, kitchens and toilets were really clean, the only thing that let it down was the really noisy fan in our room.

Staff were very nice and friendly. Only problem I had with the hostel is that it is a little TOO strict and tidy. You have to reserve a time to do your laundry (they unlock the doors for you). And the kitchen and common rooms all shut down relatively early. We were just playing a game quietly and they came and said they had to turn out the lights and what not. So that ruined the social aspect that you hope for in a hostel.

Owner Comment (Show)
Our laundry facility suffered a lot of breakage when it was freely accessible. Most of our guests appreciate the effort we make to ensure a laundry machine is reserved for them and is in working order. Our night manager is in charge of keeping the hostel safe and quiet. Although it was probably a bit too strict of him to stop a quiet game, he was fulfilling his duty to ensure that all our guests can have a great night sleep.

The owners were so friendly and helpful, thanks again Anne for making sure I got the book I forgot at the hostel! Free Wifi is also a huge bonus! Best wishes, Sibylle

We loved this place! It was the perfect place to spend a night between Magnetic Island and Cairns. The facilities were clean, and the staff was very helpful with helping us figure out how to get where we needed to go next.

Incredibly helpful European couple who run this hostel! They will bend over backwards to make sure you know where to go, whats on etc. Free wifi and the free shuttle bus to/from the bus station were the icing on the cake. Honestly the mostly helpful hostel staff I have come across in 10 years. Also, apparently the hostel owners haven't had a day off in 2 years and yet are still energetic and friendly - give them a medal! Hostel itself is clean and close to center of town.

Civic Guest House was a warm home away from home. Staff is super friendly and helpfull. Free wifi is def a plus. The outdoor area was really nice. We stayed here one night as we were just passing by Townsville, but could´ve stayed there longer because the hostel was so good :)

Very clean and efficient hostel. Enjoyable stay, but no where to go after 10pm except the street! Even in the rain!! Could use a communal area for night time use, otherwise very good.

Hostel was really nice, very clean and the most friendliest staff who gave us lots of information on the town and what to do ie Castle Hill, the HQ Aquarium and the turtle point along the beach. Free shuttle bus to and from greyhound terminal & Ferry terminal to magnetic island. Free wifi and free tea & coffee. The best hostel we have stayed in along the East Coast.

The hostel was nice and staff was pretty friendly and helpfull. Free Internet even in the rooms but if you´re looking for a place to party, this is not a good hostel for you because it´s very quiet and there are no bar´s or nightclubs around. No skyping allowed after 10pm unless you leave the hostel and skype outside on the sidewalk. Nevertheless we enjoyd our stay.

Good location and very helpful and friendly staff. The hostel is spotlessly clean to the point of being clinical, as other backpackers have mentioned. A few small additions such as hammocks and comfy seats to chill out on and perhaps a tv area would give this hostel a bit more atmosphere.
