Excellent facilities with quiet common rooms, tv room, computer room, etc. It is a bit of a party hostel, plus they let groups of school children stay there. The kids were constantly running around unsupervised and shouting at each other and generally being a nuisance, which ruined the feel of the place.

I had a very pleasant stay at the hostel, I'd say it's above an average hostel. It was mainly clean and is located in a very good area! I'm sure I will be back some time in the future! The beach and shopping area are only one block away each and there is a tourist information center right next door. I never felt helpless or lost! The money was definitely worth it!

If you don't mind paying a lot to sleep in a hostel that feels like an army camp this is the place to stay. The rooms are simple, clean and the bathroom is shared by about 50 others. It has all the required facilities but you must pay for everything additional. Computers, lockers etc, all extra.

It was an awesome hostel in a GREAT location. Minutes walk to SM pier and 3rd street promenade! Only downfall was the bathroom floors were a bit disgusting so I just wore things in the shower. Also some events that they had on were cancelled so that was a little irritating when it came to planning your time. But would definitely recommend it to anyone!

Awesome location! Just 2 blocks to the Pier and one block to the main shopping street. Lockers in the room were awesome, big enough for suitcases with shelving for belongings. Shared bathroom facilities weren't too great, virtually no privacy for showering. Some staff were great and some notsomuch. I'd stay there again though for the location.

I spent a very good stay here, it's clean, big locker in the room, several common rooms, patio, very big kitchen. Location is just perfect (one block to the beach). There is a real good breakfast (yogurt, fruit juice, cereals, toasts, jam, muffins, tea, coffee...). In the other hand you have to pay 3$ per night if you don't have the membership card and wifi doesn't work in the room.

I fell in love with HI Hostel the first day I stayed there. The facilities are clean and well-maintained. I had to book an extra night and apply for membership. They had a lot of activities to make your stay more special. I'm staying at their San Francisco branch the following week - just because of the awesome experience I had.

A good hostel in a great location near the beach! The only thing letting it down was the lack of atmosphere and vibe. If your not in a group and want somewhere with more of a vibe I suggest somewhere else.

cheaper 'after checkout' security lockers would be an improvement.

Brilliant location! Very secure overnight parking facilites close-by. Lots of shops in the area. Close to the beach and the boardwalk. For a hostel, it was clean enough. The Wi-Fi could be a little bit better. The breakfast isn't special but on par with other hostels I have stayed at. The staff were friendly and helpful. Lockers in the rooms, bring your own lock! Not the cheapest hostel but for the location it is good value for money! Would come again!

Beautiful youth hostel but poor ambiance... No evening activities or bad shows with poor artists... I didn't talked to anyone, this is the first time in a youth hostel, and I travelled a lot in youth hostels all over the world for years...

Great Place. NO PARTY and The y allow kids of 14 years to stay. Staff is cool except for Fergie. Location is excellent.

things are very good. just 2 things to be pointed out: wifi is only available on the 1st and 2nd floor which is not very convenient. people went to bar crawls organised by the hostel come back later but did not keep noise down which is not very nice to the people already sleeping.

Another reviewer mentioned that there was no hot water in the showers - there is hot water, but it takes about 5 minutes to get hot, so turn on the water, then brush your teeth, pee etc and by the time you're done the water will be hot. Also, one of my roommates stole my bag of toiletries, so remember to lock things up even if it's cheap shampoo and toothpaste. I don't blame the hostel for the theft.
