I had to alter my arrangements several times due to meeting up with friends and the staff were very good at altering my bookings and took it in there stride as though it was an everyday event Also they put me in a small room where ever possible which was preferable as a more senior citizen and not into noise or late night partying Very impressed

The staff were extremely helpful, friendly and always saw someone cleaning which made me feel a lot more comfortable staying at H.I!

Awesome location! Just 2 blocks to the Pier and one block to the main shopping street. Lockers in the room were awesome, big enough for suitcases with shelving for belongings. Shared bathroom facilities weren't too great, virtually no privacy for showering. Some staff were great and some notsomuch. I'd stay there again though for the location.

I spent a very good stay here, it's clean, big locker in the room, several common rooms, patio, very big kitchen. Location is just perfect (one block to the beach). There is a real good breakfast (yogurt, fruit juice, cereals, toasts, jam, muffins, tea, coffee...). In the other hand you have to pay 3$ per night if you don't have the membership card and wifi doesn't work in the room.

A good hostel in a great location near the beach! The only thing letting it down was the lack of atmosphere and vibe. If your not in a group and want somewhere with more of a vibe I suggest somewhere else.

I fell in love with HI Hostel the first day I stayed there. The facilities are clean and well-maintained. I had to book an extra night and apply for membership. They had a lot of activities to make your stay more special. I'm staying at their San Francisco branch the following week - just because of the awesome experience I had.

cheaper 'after checkout' security lockers would be an improvement.

Brilliant location! Very secure overnight parking facilites close-by. Lots of shops in the area. Close to the beach and the boardwalk. For a hostel, it was clean enough. The Wi-Fi could be a little bit better. The breakfast isn't special but on par with other hostels I have stayed at. The staff were friendly and helpful. Lockers in the rooms, bring your own lock! Not the cheapest hostel but for the location it is good value for money! Would come again!

Beautiful youth hostel but poor ambiance... No evening activities or bad shows with poor artists... I didn't talked to anyone, this is the first time in a youth hostel, and I travelled a lot in youth hostels all over the world for years...

things are very good. just 2 things to be pointed out: wifi is only available on the 1st and 2nd floor which is not very convenient. people went to bar crawls organised by the hostel come back later but did not keep noise down which is not very nice to the people already sleeping.

Another reviewer mentioned that there was no hot water in the showers - there is hot water, but it takes about 5 minutes to get hot, so turn on the water, then brush your teeth, pee etc and by the time you're done the water will be hot. Also, one of my roommates stole my bag of toiletries, so remember to lock things up even if it's cheap shampoo and toothpaste. I don't blame the hostel for the theft.

The family rooms are great and maybe you should have more of them. They are hard to book online - can that be fixed?

Only stayed briefly. Good to have 24hr staff and access. Had smaller room of 4 which was also nice and quiet. I travel a lot for business and stay in hotels but as a quick stopover leisure trip this seemed a much better option than a cheap motel/hotel.
