Booking hostels for Puerto Escondido is weird, it seems the good ones alone Zicatela beach are not really online? This is a good hostel to book for a jumping off point to find a hostel on the beach, its by the bus station and downtown (not zicatela) and the swimming beach. But i would say its better if you are with a big group, as when we were there we were the only ones, and that can get a bit weird if you're a solo traveller. ALso, there was only one key for the room and no lockers.

Fantastic place, right next to the beach, right next to the night strip/life. I would highly recommend this hostel to other people

Great place, it had all the amenities within a 30 second walk and all for less than 10dollars. I really don't understand how anyone can complain when I got my own private room wIth a bathroom for the same price than at a crowded room at a hostel . The best thing was being so close to the beach which meant I never had to pay for a taxi.

I don't know how anyone can complainti about this place. At first I booked it because it was the cheapest option for a private room in Puerto but then was presently surprise what I got for my money. Paolo and Mario were incredibly helpful and the location was great.

I had a fantastic stay at Hostel Monte Cassino. The atmosphere is great and very friendly, it was nice chatting to the Italian family who own it every day. Location-wise it was perfect for enjoying the town. The hostel is right next to the beach, and also at the end of one of the best roads for night life in Puerto. I'is also very peaceful and quiet once you're within the courtyard and rooms of the hostel. The room was clean, spacious and comfy. It's a great place with a friendly family feel.

Felt very welcomed. Room was very clean if a little small. Pleasant place to stay but the noise from nearby nightclub was a bit loud! Well located for main Swimmimg beach and one of main strips of bars etc. food in restaurant was excellent but would be great of kitchen facilities could be provided, or breakfast. Generally liked this place and the welcoming Italian owners

The worst hostel I've ever stayed. The room had a lot of spiders, webs and big red ants. There's no security: anyone can have access to the rooms!!! The front desk guy was really rude, we spent more than two hours waiting for him because the guy was sleeping at 10 am. NO PARKING SPACE. It's too expensive you can get on site a better price for a room on a hotel, cleaner and better service. 100% NOT RECOMMENDED

We really enjoyed our stay here - you can't beat the location, it's right across from the beach, and just outside the main tourist area. The hostel is run by Mario and his son Paolo, they are by far the most helpful hostel staff we have come across in central America. Rooms are a bit minimal, bed and bathroom only, but for the price and the location it's hard to complain - you should be spending all your time at the beach. We had hot showers, and the Internet worked fine.

The owner and his son were really friendly and very helpful. However, it didn't feel like a hostel as there was no communal area so no chance to socialise with fellow travellers. But it was so close to the beach, very quiet and pretty clean. I guess it depends on what you want. Personally I found it good value for money.

Really happy we booked at Hostel Montecassino. The room was very clean, we were less than a minute away from the beach and most importantly Paolo and Mario were very nice and helpful; on our second day in Puerto I felt sick and Paolo actually drove me the doctor and then to the chemist. Next time we are in Puerto Escondido we are definitely going back

The biggest problem of the hostel is security. The door of our room cannot be locked, and when we came back at night, our door was open! Luckily we did not lose anything but this made us feel unsafe.
