Not the best front desk staff. It seems like thay hate their job or just do not care at all about being polite to guests

Ok. It is a good hostel, lots of common space to social or mingle or just to do your own thing. The toilets and showers are reasonably clean. However, I do not think it deserves its 'best hostel' of nyc 2012 title. During my first stay they gave me a bed that was already in use, and then they gave me a new one, only for me to find used pillow cover and used blanket on it. My headlight was also broken and I could barely read or organise my stuff under the dim light in the room. I left the 2nd day

This is a big well-established hostel and they know what they are doing! Café, internet that works perfectly, guided tours and pubcrawls (didn't try any tho) and well set up facilities.

I had a great time!! Met new people from around the world. I never felt alone. The pub crawls were a lot of fun. I recommend this place.

No effort into personal remembrance which makes the staff come off as a bit 'arrogant' but i think its an american thing. Locals seem to stay as well as international travellers which is slightly off putting, as some of them look homeless. The rest is all good Good lounges Good bathrooms Good facilities Good lockers 2 decent pillows Good wifi Good free tours and organised stuff to do each day/night

I've stayed in hostels worldwide and this is by far one of the best. The facilities and cleanliness are excellent. The only downsides were that there seemed to be school groups staying and the kids would run around and slam doors and the cafe downstairs whilst convenient and great value is staffed by people who at best have a bad attitude but are generally bitchy and rude and choose to mostly speak Spanish - often to each other about the customers standing in front of them.

The activities and tours run by the hostel are fantastic and very well priced. They are social and an easy way to meet others.

To say this place was great is an understatement. The staff seemed happy to be there. The common areas are huge and plentiful. I enjoyed the Cafe being located right in the building. Top notch grilled sandwiches, salads, soups, pastry's and full espresso cart. All at a bargain basement price for NYC. My room was clean and the bathrooms were spotless. I will stay here again on my next NYC visit. The place really has a international feel to it. The location is great and close to the subway.

I had a good stay. The building, layout, and atmosphere were really interesting and nice. Most of the other people staying there kept to themselves, but the hostel offers a lot of things that give people who are flying solo a chance to mingle. There's a good deal of common space, and the kitchen is solid for storing and cooking food. I would definitely stay here again.

Clean hostel, very convenient if you're headed to or from LaGuardia airport via the M60 bus. Close to Upper West Side attractions and the subway will get you to most other areas in a half hour or so. Lots of common areas to meet people if you're into that, but the rooms were quiet. I agree it was a pain to charge my phone since I didn't have an outlet near my bunk. Will definitely stay there again. Can't beat the price.

Excellent Location. Really clean. Good Price. Excellent Tour. ( Jerry, the guide, was amazing and the price was really good. ) The Staff was really friendly and professional. Pity for the noise, I could here everything that was happening from the street . The heater was really noisy too.. maybe a new one would be better.

Very good hostel. Only problem is that one person in the room was playing on their computer the whole night and the light was disturbing when everyone else was already asleep. I think it's not a problem if you limit yourself to an hour or less of activity during the night time in respect of other guests. Also, there was an issue with hot water in the bathrooms. Though signs were posted throughout the hostel, I did not get fair warning until my arrival. Staff was friendly and hostel was clean.

Really nice place - absolutely recommended, it's a safe choice! But anyway, I'm very inclined to try another place when visiting NY. HI is expensive at $50/bed.

Staying at Hostelling International was great! Too much space, clean nice rooms and restrooms, many facilities, great caffeteria. I also liked the idea of tours promoted by the hostel staff and the "out goings" to pubs and clubs, these can make a trip funnier for sure. I only have to complain about the staff, that they could be more easygoing and helpful with the guests.
