I will say this is value for your money, but when comparing this Hostel to previous Hostel experiences I would day that it lacks atmosphere. There are not many activities organized to allow people to meet each other and foster a sense community. The location and security is great, which is why I am inclined to recommend this place to someone, with the point that the social environment is not that of other hostels, it is a more quiet and calm environment,

I really liked this hostel, I was so happy I was able to book it for my trip. This is definitely the place to stay in NYC! It costs half as much as other hostels, and is the perfect base for the young, independent traveller. You do have to leave any larger suitcases in the office, but I think this is just because the stairs are creaky and narrow, so it's best not to be dragging bags up them. There are only 2 bathrooms and one without shower in the kitchen, so plan well. Overall it was great!

This isn't a great hostel by any means, but considering that it's way cheaper than all the other hostels in Manhattan I still think is a good choice for someone on a tight budget. Besides, it's very well located. The main problems are in the morning when there's only one shower for ten people, and then when they start cleaning and restricting your access to the different parts of the hostel, including your room. Also some members of the staff are not very polite. Especially the guys.

Good and cheap place to stay in Manhattan. Awesome place to meet new people too. No wifi is the bad thing, but there is a starbucks nearby with free wifi.

It is not very practical to have to leave your luggage at the reception (especially if you are in a room on the 4th floor. Also the limited number if bathrooms makes it all very uncomfortable (2 bathrooms only on the 4th floor for 4 dorms of 8 beds each = 2 bathrooms for 32 people???!)

Owner Comment (Show)
We are sorry to hear the facilities were not up to your standards. The large luggage must remain downstairs because of fire safety regulations. This is emphasized on our hostelworld profile and in the confirmation email that we sent you. And we definitely do not have only 2 bathrooms for the whole hostel :). The bathrooms for the mixed dorm are located inside of the rooms, which is why you did not notice them. Best, ISC Staff

We took the wrong train so we couldn't make it to 11 pm the time when the staff goes home but I called them and they stayed and waited for us. They were very friendly even if we were 10 minutes late. It's a very cheap place to stay when you're in NYC. Nothing luxury and its old. But still good enough. Super if you think of the price and location.

The price and the location are the best. Although the fact you cannot take your luggage to the room is quite annoying. It's close to the park and 2 subway station, this is very good for those who plan to go out late.

Great place for a pleasant stay! One should be reminded that if travellers need to leave early in the morning before the office desk hour (8am), he/she needs to take their luggage the night before.

Excellent hostel considering price and location: uptown Manhattan. Staff is friendly and decent kitchen. Could use some more toilets and doesn't have wifi, but good vibe for meeting people. Only problem for me was that some people in the hostel clearly were not used to sleeping in dorms. If you want to book this place, please have respect for the people sleeping in the evening or early morning. You don't have as private room! That being said: enjoy NYC!

The only bad thing was that they aren't WI FI, but there is a Starbucks near, so.. you can use.

It is far from the downtown, but only one block away from the subway (that is open 24 hours). The staff is gente, and the facilities are aceptable, although there is no supply of anything but dishes, cups and cuttlery (no even sugar). It is a good place for the money you have to pay.

It's a great place that really impressed me. It was definitely more than what I expected for the price. There is a nice living room to hang out and also a kitchen to cook. They provide some nice books to reas as well as the cutlery needed. It's close to a subway station which allows you to go wherever you want, plus it's near of Central Park. Great place!

I felt that the cleaning hours were a tad excessive, but overall I had a great stay and everyone was friendly and helpful enough.

The hostel in itself was poorly furnished and there was no room to store the luggage, not even a locker inside the rooms. Valuables like phones and chargers should not be left in the room. We had to run down 3 stories to access our bags. One of the bathrooms didn't work, and the female stuff is uncooperative and rather rude. Th male staff was friendly and helpful. The security is another issue, the rooms are in no way locked and can be accessed by everyone who is inside the building.

Such a wonderful and community based atmosphere! This is my second time staying here, I would recommend it to anyone. The staff is friendly and knowledgable about the city. They are also very deliberate about cleaning and the safety of the guests. Great stay!
