Very nice hostel in Takayama, pleasant staff offering help to get the most of the Japanese Alps area. Good facilities, including washing machine with dryers and separate shower cabins.

This was a great hostel in a cool little town. Very friendly staff, great common areas that help meet other travellers (try the kotatsu heated table - inspired!), good kitchen, and we had a lovely spacious private twin room on the top floor. The hostel has got a really good friendly vibe about it, and is in a great location close to the station and lots of food/drink options. Only bad points: no lift and 4 floors; showers only on ground floor; rental cycles are not good - go elsewhere for that.

Small items: no soap in showers (1st hostel in 1 1/2 month trip), 2nd floor toilet seat loose, same toilet's plumbing curiously repaired with towel instead of being actually repaired (most UN-Japanese) Wifi was particularly non-operative most of the 2 days I was there.

Great place, good size rooms, very helpful and knowledgeable staff, good trips organised etc. Much better than the Hiroshima J-Hoppers which lacks most of these qualities.

I had a great experience at the Takayama J-Hoppers. The staff was friendly and very helpfull, the facilities were clean and well maintained, and the general atmosphere was laid back and very open. We got to meet some great people while there and the hostel is not far from the former Takayama Castle ruins on a mountain which is a great place to have a rejuvenating run in the evening :)

This was a full service hostel; very different from the small, quaint hostels I had been staying in. They have everything, except for an elevator. You do need to shower on the first floor, which is a trek if you are on the 4th, but not a big deal. The staff was friendly and the facilities were clean. The hostel is a few blocks from the train station which makes it super convenient. I took advantage of the WiFi and Bike rental - which I highly recommend!

I could say excellent to all categories except that in comparison some hostels are a bit better. I enjoyed my stay with the excellent support of the staff.

Great hostel, walking distance from the station, nice kitchen and spacious rooms. Big and confortable beds, if you are used to futton style. The staff is the best in Japan, they will help you in any way they can. they even took all the guests on their own cars to a spring festival!

Superb place! Good location, the best staff, such wonderful facilities and friendly atmosphere. We as a family with 3 year old child loved it here! Thank you all for your hospitality, this is one of the best stays in Japan. Wherever you go, J-hoppers is one of the top choices, no doubting that! We felt just like home. 5*

This place was a gem. The staff were wonderful even offering to help me with directions hours before I checked in. Ayumi in particular was funny and cute.

I arrived late for my only night here, so I didn't spend too much time in the Hostel. The facilities could do with some renovating. I had a less than ideal interaction with one staff upon check in. I think there are now better options in Takayama, but it wasn't the worst out there.
