We really liked staying here. The staff are amazing, and we met heaps of great people. Its really close to the station and because the towns so small it's close to everything. Nice and clean, be careful with the dryer if you're doing washing though.

The staff were great! They were extremely helpful and were more than willing to look up information for us and help with bookings, etc. The kitchen was awesome! It was nice and big with two different cooking areas and two sinks. There was a nice common room. Overall it was a nice hostel, it did feel a little big and corporate though.

Really close to the station, the bunk beds in the dorm are huge and always warm (unlike a lot of hostels in Japan in the winter). Free snow boats to borrow and umbrellas. The staff were really helpful and accommodating; great hostel!

All around the walls of the lobby area there are good suggestions of what to do. Tomoko and the hidden night staff Miyuki were very friendly and gave me good personal suggestions. A big thank you to both of them. (and the other staff too) The New Year's Eve noodle party and shrine visiting were cool. The 2000 yen tour of Shirakawago was a great value. (but it's not offered most of the time because of the broken car) I stayed 4 days and did something fun and different each day.

Among all the hostels I have been in Japan so far this one has the best balance of resources a traveller needs, feels almost like home.

Stayed there for two nights. This was my third stay with J-hoppers and I have no complaints whatsoever. The hostel is close to the main attractions of Takayama and to the train and bus stations. Had a great time chatting with the staff and other guests, got great help choosing where to go in the area and generally felt very comfortable.

Room heating system is not good and very old. It produced loud noise when we tried to on high temperature. Other than that every thing else is fine to us.

the hostel is very good and staff is very owesome. It's near to the Takayama station and very easy to find. If I can come back to Takayama some day, it will be my only choice.

As with other j-hopper hostels I've stayed in, staff were excellent. Inobstrusive, but always available for advice of where to go (and how to get there. Onsen is also worthwhile. Place clean and homely with good kitchen, small lounges. Only drawbacj is having shower downstairs from rooms.

Well equipped rooms and communal kitchen. Lots of info on what to do / how to get around. Staff are charming; Tomoko gives the place that little extra. We had a great 4-night stay.
