We arrived on the last train in and it was a blessing that the hostel was close to the station cause it was really cold when we came in. We werent able to advise them of our late check-in but there was no problem when we arrived, they were still waiting for us. The Staff were uber helpful and knowledgeable and personable. We were even given information on our next place of visit. I would definitely recommend this place to anyway and use it again when if I return to Takayama. Great place!

The futon room was comfortable. I actually like the spacious kitchen with free green teas and hot water. The hostel is very quiet maybe becoz it is still winter; that is a plus point though. The hostel also offer free usage of snowboots and umbrellas! Walking distance to the bus and train station and the attractions of edo houses. I had a comfortable stay.

Staff was excellent (Aki-san, Tomoko-san n another girl). My short stay was worth it, although I should have stayed longer. The room is clean, and so the showers. I visited as off-peak, thus almost no other traveler around to chat with. The staff kept me company. Aki-san helped me to gather info for Arkopia Ski trip altho its already his time off. Snowboarding on Arkopia was best experience for me, ends up w/ body aches "Itai~"

J-Hoppers is very close to the station and all historical things 10 min by walk. Staff is very friendly, helpful and english speaking. The rooms have a really nice atmosphere. During wintertime it\'s quite warm, but could be warmer. Little bit Windy under the shower so you don\'t take a long shower. But a really good place to stay and I really recommend this hostel.

Although reception closed when we arrived the staff were very helpful and had lots of information on the local area.Beds and bedding were so comfy and the 6 bed dorms were warm and quiet with secure storage available on each floor.Kitchen with free tea & coffee, shared bathrooms and clothes washing facilities all available. They even had snow boots for us to use in the winter weather!Overall a great hostel in a beautiful town, well worth the trip.

We really liked staying here. The staff are amazing, and we met heaps of great people. Its really close to the station and because the towns so small it's close to everything. Nice and clean, be careful with the dryer if you're doing washing though.

The staff were great! They were extremely helpful and were more than willing to look up information for us and help with bookings, etc. The kitchen was awesome! It was nice and big with two different cooking areas and two sinks. There was a nice common room. Overall it was a nice hostel, it did feel a little big and corporate though.

Really close to the station, the bunk beds in the dorm are huge and always warm (unlike a lot of hostels in Japan in the winter). Free snow boats to borrow and umbrellas. The staff were really helpful and accommodating; great hostel!

All around the walls of the lobby area there are good suggestions of what to do. Tomoko and the hidden night staff Miyuki were very friendly and gave me good personal suggestions. A big thank you to both of them. (and the other staff too) The New Year's Eve noodle party and shrine visiting were cool. The 2000 yen tour of Shirakawago was a great value. (but it's not offered most of the time because of the broken car) I stayed 4 days and did something fun and different each day.

Stayed there for two nights. This was my third stay with J-hoppers and I have no complaints whatsoever. The hostel is close to the main attractions of Takayama and to the train and bus stations. Had a great time chatting with the staff and other guests, got great help choosing where to go in the area and generally felt very comfortable.
