I liked the room and the people were nice. But the common room didn`t have a heater so it was as cold in there as outside.

The value for the money is very good. The hotel is clean and the rooms are more than decent. This is quite conveniently located. I was there off season, so maybe that's the reason why there wasn't any kind of atmosphere there. Some part of the staff is really really helpful (train tickets booking, Huangshan mountains tips). They propose you tours for Xidi and Hongcun, but we actually found more interesting, more genuine and very much cheaper to go there by ourselves.

HOT SHOWER AVAILABLE it was bliss..... Just what I needed after mountain trek. It was fairly quiet when I went but then it was off peak..... As Lp mentioned a little run down...... But that's character for you. There was a tent with covers set up in corridor...... Guess that's for people on a super tight budget and can't afford a dorm bed....... I'm guessing. Excellent wifi signal on all floors

Especially the service of booking other hotels/hostels e.g. at Huangshan and booking train or bus tickets is really convenient. Nice backpacker base camp for Huangshan (although an hour away). If you want to kill some time in Tunxi itself, go to the 'lao jie' and stroll down the ancient street.

The quality of the shampoo provided needs to improve. I have to squeeze a great amount to feel it is enough to make hairs clean.

The staff here speak English and are unbelievably helpful! If you are trying to hike up the Huangshan Mountains, this is DEFINITELY the place from which to start. They will help you plan your hike, as well as getting there and getting home from the bottom of the mountain. There are luggage lockers, but bring your own lock.

The really cheap double room had all one could need : comfortable bed, private bathroom, even towels and slippers. Reasonably quiet. Common room on 1st floor was really pleasant to stay in.

This hostel is good enough, clean and comfortable, but I was hoping for more in terms of advice about Huang Shan. They tell you the basics, but not, for example, how to avoid the crowds, get to the best bits fast, best ways of staying up there overnight. The hostel did seem more geared up for Chinese than foreign guests. Small point: the woman guide on the morning bus they use to the mountain spoke no English and was plain rude.

Next to train station, lovely girls in reception, but i got to say that the young guy working there seemed bit moody and maybe even grumpy when you asked something from him..Nevertheless nice hostel and good value for money. Recommend.
