Nice hostel.... staff were helpful but frustrating as they couldnt tell you if there was buses operating on Chinese New Year. Expect the travel staff at the hostel to know that. Wifi as a facility not the best

This actually refers to Upland, as I reserved at Cloudland, but my reservation was switched. Upland was a nice, clean, well located (near bar/food/expat/cafe/university) hostel with friendly if only medium-helpful service and a very nice private double room. Great value for the money. No complaints.

Although it's not in the city center, the youth hostel is well located when you want to move for north west yunnan after, no bus change to go to the west bus station which is good because taking the bus in Kunming city center can be quite difficult. Rooms and facilities are very clean, the staff very helpfull and it's possible to rent really good moutain bike for 30rbm/day wich is one of the best way to discover Kunming and its surrounding.

Good place offering all the basics, comfy lounge areas, etc. A major caveat: the private double room has no bathroom door, only a plastic curtain, so the toilet is next to the sleeping area with no barrier. This is hardly comfortable for any 2 people staying in a double room. In the city some cabs would not take us back to the hostel despite a map with the address in Chinese, and the hostel would not call cabs for pick-up at the hostel. They do book bus tickets, etc. for a small fee.

Lovely different place in a modern faceless city. Could have been hard to find if I hadnt had taxi from airport. was confused by bus 64 as I didnt realised I had to get a second one to train station. Enjoyed my experience tho, good luck for future.

The hostel is fine. Nice bar and decent food at decent prices. The stand out here is the staff. They are extreamly helpful and their knowledge of the area and public transport is solid.

The hostel was very basic, and the facilities weren't great (eg taps which didn't work and toilets which didn't flush). I felt the staff were unapproachable- when I asked questions, they seemed to want to give me the shortest possible answer to get rid of me & get back to what they were doing before. In general I felt that the atmosphere was a little unfriendly.

While not the cheapest or the homey-est, Cloudland is very hip and has lots of resources for folks just arriving in Yunnan and planning onward travel. The cafe-bar is a pleasant place to have a drink and meet new friends, though the dimness of the lighting makes it hard to research the next day's travels or write postcards. Our twin private was spacious and clean and even came with an additional sitting-area with a separate sofa/daybed. Biggest problem: very flaky and slow internet!

Really helpful staff, nice looking hostel , good food. The computers didn't work very well. They have library but not a book swap which seems a bit pointless, and hardly any English books. Still a good hostel though.

I came as a traveller and liked it, so when I moved to Kunming to study, I decided to live here. The atmosphere is great, so comfortable and easy to relax, meet people, and have fun. Good location, a short walk to the market, restaurants, shopping, parks, and many buses run nearby. Rooms, bathrooms, and showers (always with hot water) are very clean. Amazing staff! They are so nice, speak English, have tons of information for travellers, and are always willing to help. I definitely recommend it!
