Meininger is always a good choice, just had a bad experience at this one. Had a lock on my locker and went to get dinner, came back someone had broke my lock and stole my valuables(over $1000 worth). Hostel doesn't have cameras in enough spots and it is possible to go unseen from room to outside so wasn't able to get any video of anything. Filed a police report. 😞
Female, USA, traveling alone! Meininger was quiet, which was what I wanted, and still close enough to Altona station. I stayed in the 6 bed mixed dorm, which was clean and had individual lockers. I also liked that the toilet and shower were in separate rooms. Staff were good to me, and the buffet breakfast was worth the 6.90 euros I paid. Only weird thing was how the shower worked, but the water pressure was fine, so no big deal. If all Meininger's are this nice, I would stay at one again.

Location is actually no city center at all but it's close to the SBA station so it worked. Everything else is perfect, almost a hotel level. I will recommend it if you have city pass or other tickets which allows u to use the public transportation without limits because you will need it so much if u stay hete.
Staff were hot They had twix in the vending machine Location wasn't great - A short poem by Patrick Carey
I swear meininger hostels are not actually in the city center. This hostel was 45 min walk to the centre
Really nice hostel, but to many old people for a youth hostel, the atmosphere is more like a hotel, and the hostel is very far from the center, other than that, very clean, nice rooms, nice staff, everything was great, your type of hostel if you want to relax. (I don't want to be mean with older people) But I would never recommend this hostel for youth people that want to make friends and also go partying. This is more for relaxation, and the beds are really comfortable! So that's a plus 👍🏻
Very clean and with a nice atmosphere

Loved this hostel, one of the best I've stayed in! It's not very far from the center, so nice and quiet if you need it :) Stayed in a 6 bed female dorm and was so impressed by how clean everything was! Staff were super friendly and very helpful too, and the breakfast in the morning was a good spread, very worth the money :)
Excellent location, excellent facilities, effective staff. The atmosphere could be a bit better though. This is a place where you just don't need to worry about it. You just need to focus on experiencing the city.

The staff are very hospitality. Few minutes walking from the S bahn/bus station. The room is very clean.
My only complaint is that there was a TV in the room! Which some rude guy kept watching in the middle of the night while I was trying to sleep. TVs do not belong in hostel rooms! Otherwise everything about the hostel was fantastic and clean.
The staff is very nice and helpful, but the some guests are bad, I stayed in mix dorm, the boys are so noisy overy night, I can't sleep.
Good breakfast, friendly staff, easy to find. Would definitely stay there again, but require a method of transportation to get into the busier areas of the city. The walk is nice, though - a very scenic 6 or so kilometres from the main drag.
Overpriced (I paid 55 Euros for two nights for a bed in an 8-bed dorm). Remote (it's not in the centre but near Altona railway station). Not very secure (all but two lockers in our room were damaged and did not lock). Not clean (shower cabin full of hair, some trash on floor in my room). Poor atmosphere (a mega hostel with no real common spaces). Room was cramped (not enough place to store my luggage, bad ventilation).
I really liked my stay here. The hostel is far from places you want to see, but It's right next to the Altona train station so you can take the metro relatively easily. The beds are small even for a hostel and the cleaning lady comes so early in the morning... There are also no lockers in the rooms or safes, but there is a luggage room as well as lockers on the main floor. Other than that I enjoyed my stay here.
It was a great time. The attendants were quite pleasants, the room and bathroom was clean and confortable, the breakfest reasonable for the price paid. It's a little bit far from the mainly atttactions, but has easy access to the public transport. Nothing to concern.
The hostel was almost full when we stayed there. There are not lockers in the room, so you need to leave your bags in a luggage room downstairs. Only one washer dryer (and the dryer doesn't work too well) for the whole hostel. A fun vibe in the bar/common area, but it was a little too loud to be able to meet or talk to new people. Overall, the hostel was pretty expensive for an average experience.
great if you want a comfortable stay, difficult to meet people if you're a solo traveller
Not city center but cool neighborhood. rent a bike and go down to the overlook (sweet view) the then make your way west and easily tour the city. Right near the metro too. Pretty pleasant.
The location is not in the city center. Decent but would have rather been in the actual city center for the same price.
