We enjoyed our stay, great location right near train and shops. Very helpful staff, excellent breakfast.

Friendly, smooth. But my dorm room was also featuring one regular double bed (the rest were bunk beds as expected) - so if I had been unlucky (or late), I could have ended up sharing the double bed with somebody else... But as it was, no complaints.
This was a great place to stay for a much needed break between Copenhagen and Amsterdam. I was able to catch up on laundry and have a relaxing day at the hostel. It's in a great neighborhood with shopping and restaurants just outside the city center, great environment! The only thing is the lockers weren't big enough for my backpack, which isn't really that big, so I had to leave it on the floor and hope for the best. Other than that, this was a great place to stay and would stay again.
Atmosphere is a little bit dead, probably due to the mixture of this being a combination of hostel and hotel rooms. There is a bar downstairs but patrons are practically non-existent. Staff is excellent and beds comfortable.
I enjoyed my stay here. It was a shame that there was never anyone in the hostel bar though. I would also like to see the hostels renew their lockers as most of the lockers in our dorm were broken.
Meininger's are always pretty good. Too expensive to stay here on the weekends when they double their prices.
Was not impressed to be put in a dorm room full of men when I expected it to be mixed female and male in smaller dorm. Not secured lockers in dorms to use, looked tacky compared to flash new bathroom! Did not feel safe in the area for solo traveller at night time in Altona area, I felt sick all night not being warm welcomed and feeling safe at all for 14hours. I left Hostel to find safer place and very disappointed with value for money.
Recommend choosing the 8 bed dorm as the rooms are nice enough to chill in and meet the others in the room.
There's free laundry, which is great, but only one machine. Still, I had no problems getting my tags washed. Wifi was great in almost al parts of the hotel which was also good. Main issue was the lac of secure places to put luggage - there were only 2 lockers in dorms, and I could still open mine when I put a lock on it. It's was a huge negative for me.
It's Hostel and Hotel, so not really for backpackers wanting some fun.
In all the hostels I've visited in Germany: is not possible, that put free wi-fi in advertising and then it's all blocked WI-FI or very low signal, where it is impossible to communicate? This is the free Germany?
Good hostel, very modern, clean and full of services... The location it's not the best one, quite far from the city center..
FYI if you book a 6 person dorm, they may over book to a 8 or 10 person, but will still charge you for a 6 person dorm. Also they don't clean the room, except to take the trash out and but new sheets on the bed that you have to make up. There's only one elevator which is annoying and they use key cards that don't always work. This was the worst hostel/hotel I have stayed at, NEVER AGAIN
I muss say, I was very surprise when I went inside of this place. It looks more like a small hotel. My and my family loved it. There were only two things that bothered me. First one of the sheets was dirty and second the breakfast was kind of expensive for a continental breakfast, which had a very small selection of food. But all in all it is a great place. You don't feel in a hostel at all.
The wifi was very slow and hard to get onto sites. Didn't like that you couldn't eat food from outside in the dining room or have anywhere to keep some food. Otherwise, good clean hostel.
Everything was SUPER! I highly recommend Meininger. The only thing that was challenging, was parking our mini van (for 9 persons) in the tight parking place. Other than that, super!
I've already been twice here and I can't say anything but that I love it. It's barely five minutes away from Altona station. Staff has been really nice. The room is quite comfy and big and was really clean and tidy upon arrival. Totally recommended.
We booked for 8-bed room for 4 people. However, when we arrived to room we saw that there are 9 beds. 9th one is folding bed and one of us had to sleep there. When we asked for the reason they said that there was nothing they can do and reservation team was responsible for that. Also they told us that we sould have come early. Booking for hostel in advance and accepting cancellation is our duty. On the other hand providing promised service quality must be their duty.
This was a good place to stay. It was more like a hotel than a hostel so it was tricky to meet people. The staff were really helpful. The rooms are massive and really comfortable. My only concern was the price of a bed which could range from £24 a night to £60 a night for the same bed in a 6 bed dorm.
Clean. Huge rooms. Good location. Wifi worked well. Definitely would recommend
