The hostel is right near to Hamburg Altona rail station, so we reached it in a minute. We arrived in the night but we didn't have any problem as there is 24h reception and the linen were already on the bed. The staff is very kind.

Meininger was a good hostel. It was clean and safe. I had a great mix of people in my room so that was a plus. It's obviously a more commercial style hotel/hostel but that's not a big deal. Location was good as it was close to the Atona station. I really like the policy that you can't bring alcohol in the hostel as I wanted to avoid the Hamburg party scene. I'd probably look for another place to stay next time to get a better cultural experience. Perfect for families and first time travelers.

I was really surprised by the quality of the hostel. It looks like a hotel. Very nice sofas to drink something. The room are very nice, TV and private shower and WC are availabe.

Staff were not friendly, informative or helpful; no lockers in rooms or anywhere else; location wasn't great - always needed to catch a train from the hostel to somewhere interesting. Breakfast was probably worth 5.90...just. There just must be better places available in Hamburg. I Wouldn't stay here again.

my stay was very comfortable although i did unfortunately have the experience that someone searched through my bed during the day so it is recommended to make full use of the lockers provided!
