Not exactly what we were after. "Hamburg City Centre" is a bit of a stretch, in Altona, about a 15 min tube ride from the city. Wifi was dodgy, in and out when in the room. Atmosphere wasn't great, we were there Tuesday - Friday and didn't really meet anyone... Staff were friendly and helpful, rooms were clean, beds were good. But not a place to meet people and have some brews.
The hostel is very good. Excellent wi-fi and rooms. The location is not the best, but it is close to a train station. The staff is good as well. I just think the atmosphere could be improved. A lot of teenagers were there during my stay, so maybe it is not the best place in case you are traveling alone.
Our room was great, with plenty of space, the bathroom was quite big compared to other hostels I've been to, and everything was super clean. Breakfast was cheap and quite good. And the location is better than what I thought it would be, just next to the Altona train station, only a short ride in the S-Bahn to the main places in the rest of Hamburg.
A bit far from the sights, but not bad with a metro ride. Nearby giant supermarket, good kitchen, but lacking in usable sharp knives. Great wifi throughout, huge rooms, great view from the sixth floor, comfy beds. Really clean. Didn't do the (extra fee) breakfast, but meeting people in the kitchen at night was fun. Breakfast is cheaper from the store.
My only real gripe is that this is not central at all. You need to take a train to get into the centre of the city. The place is nice, it's like a hotel with some hostel rooms. Wifi works in lounge. There is a kitchen for guests. The lounge area is quite impersonal. I was comfortable here.
I thought this hostel was an average place to stay. The environment/atmosphere was okay, and the staff did not exceed my expectations. Don't be fooled by the name, it's nowhere near close to the city centre of Hamburg, you have to take the Metro to get into the city.
Essentially there was nothing wrong with this hostel, it was just very average. The staff were friendly but not that helpful - when I asked where the Beatlesplatz was they just said they didn't know, rather than looking it up on their computer. Price was ridiculously expensive at €81.00 for 2 nights per person in a mixed dorm, in which there was not a lot of privacy from other guests.
It was okay the location is quite near the station.
Female staff really helpful, male staff not so much. Wifi is decent, but not good enough to upload pics. 5 minute walk from central train station. Big lockers for security, clean showers that are decent sized and separate from toilet. Reception is open 24 hours. They do have washer and dryer. The area is safe and uneventful, grocer is inside the train station. Comfortable bunks. Bar closes early.
Me and my friends missed some proactivity of the team, when asked about local basic things nobody could answer us and also doesn't seem to be interessed in searching, just if asked some times. Sometimes they were lost when more than one person needed something from the reception. The staff also offered us late check out and accepted the money for it when actually it wasn't a procedure allowed at the dorms, the staff working the next day was kind and let me stay anyway. Cleanliness was good.
The staff is very friendly and helpful! Thank you very much!
Its an awesome hotel...very clean, very comfortable .. But the receptionists are not friendly at all. Besides Tomas , no one would help us w any info.. Not a place to make friends
Large hotel, not much atmosphere and kind of expensive, but the facilities and staff were top notch. Good kitchen and laundry, and they usually have leftover bread for free. Nice place to stay but not really my style of hostel. Kind of loud at night with so many people.
This is a very nice hostel. My only problem was the miscommunication in whether I would have to pay by credit card beforehand or with cash on arrival. The information about special times of the year when bookings must be paid in advance was not updated in the original booking email. This caused us a bit of a headache as we understood we would be paying in cash like the email said. Otherwise everything was fine.
This was more like a hotel than a hostel. There was a nice couch in the room to sit on and ample space to spread out in the room.
The rooms are really nice !!! It's a little far from the city center though !

We stayed with 4 people in a 6-bedroom. The room was very clean and in good shape, staff was friendly and always available. The quality standard is those of hotels rather than hostels. The hostel itself is situated in Altona, one of the nicest neighbourhoods of Hamburg, which is close to the city center. Areas like the harbor or the Reeperbahn and can be conveniently reached on foot or by train. A downside was that the
Very nice, clean and quiet. One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at.
