Very cold, unclean

Great hostel, the location is right in the city center, staff were helpful with giving directions, rooms were clean, and a hot breakfast was included in the cost.

It was a nice stay. A very quite guest house. Not far from the city center, which was really nice. Breakfast was excellent.

It was good for the price and in a great location, but it was old and there were renovations happening. I would stay again, but don't expect anything spectacular.

Wasn't an overly charming hostel, but it certainly met all of my most immediate needs. I'd say the biggest downside is that you don't get wifi in the rooms, and have to sit in the dining room in order to get it. Otherwise, it's a great little spot.

We had been traveling Europe for two weeks prior to staying at McLay's. This was by far my favorite hostel/guest house we stayed on the entire trip. The rooms were incredibly spacious for a hostel, with a large bed and a beautiful en suite bathroom. In addition, the staff was amazing. They were very friendly and even prepared us breakfast at 430AM since we had to leave for the airport at 5AM. Above and beyond the call of duty. Would recommend to anyone visiting Glasgow, Scotland

Almost too nice to be a hostel. The price was more than amazing considering all that we got. The staff were exceptionally friendly and willing to go far and beyond to make sure that our needs were met. They even made us an early (5 am) continental breakfast on the day of our flight home. Great experience all around.

Excellent place to stay! Everybody is warm and nice. The breakfast is pretty complete and is very comfortable. 100% recommended!

We stayed here for one night and it was really relaxing. Breakfast was great, we had a t.v. in our room and it was a good location. The staff are nice. The shower was upstairs but there were two. The toilet on our floor and the showers upstairs were in really big nice bathrooms. Great place to relax.

Breakfast was maybe the best I've seen in any hostel. Actually McLays was more like a hotel than a hostel, having hostel prices, which is good! However I can't say it was super clean. Room was very cold even though the heater was on maximum, cos of the single glazed window, which is ridiculous in Scotland! Also shower barely had proper hot water. But anyway I would come back cos its enough for me, and the staff were lovely...

I have no words to explain the quality of place.That is more than my expectations.The behaviour of staff is good.One thing if they will give internet facility in the room rather than on one place of hostel then every one feel more comfortable.

Shockingly bad! The twin room was so small that we had to climb over one bed to get in and out, as it blocked the door. The previous guest's pubic hairs were still in the sheets, their rubbish still in the bin and there was a strong chemical smell, like paint stripper. The bathroom door didn't close and there were several loose tiles in the floor. Lumpy, uncomfortable beds and non-adjustable heating. No Internet access in the room.

Breakfast ok, but the room was cold.

I have been there with 3 friends. Our bedroom had 3 single beds and 1 double bed. Warm and clean bedroom, excelent breakfast, nice staff.

Clean, comfortable, friendly and helpful staff, excellent location, very reasonable prices and a generous breakfast - what more could one want? Thanks for a pleasant stay: this will be my first choice next time I'm in Glasgow!
