We really liked our stay. The hostel was just perfect and super clean. Location very good and staff very friendly. But what we liked most was that we could had the perfect breakfast and coffee.

Generally a nice hostel in a great location to visit Guilin. Compared to other hostels we stayed at in China, however, we were not impressed by the front staff (which may be different when you visit). Hostel seemed aligned with local travel agents to sell organized tours (Longji Rice Terraces, Li River Cruises) rather than inform about independent travel options (e.g., no knowledge about local or regional bus routes). But a convenient gateway for subsequent nights in Pingan, Dazai, or Yangshuo.

The fresh cut flowers every morning were amazing. They kept the whole place smelling delicious from morning until night. The lounge area had so much atmosphere, from the art to lighting to the music. The beds were comfortable, the showers clean and strong. Not all the staff spoke the best English, but every time I needed help I got it.

We arrived to no room ready for us. They gave the key to the first room and when we opened the door, there was a guy lying in bed half naked, still sleeping. So we told them and they gave us another room and the electricity was not working. Finally after two changes, they gave us a room that reeked of smoke. One lady was very rude and gave terrible directions. Made us head to a hotel to take a bus to Longsheng rice terrace but turns out those buses are for tour groups. I won't recommend this.

Meals are great and we especially appreciated the friendly atmosphere in the bar/ restaurant area. Wi-fi in the rooms is also great although the strength varies a fair bit. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and a couple of them have excellent English.

The quality of a hostel and great location . There is a large common space on the first floor bar with big couches, many tables, a pool table. Breakfast there is good. Rooms are comfortable, air conditioned, and have bathrooms.

It is well located to the pedestrian mall and close to Li River. The staff are not so friendly. Lights flicker frequently due to low voltage.

Everything. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to help you with whatever you needed. The place was clean, including the check-in, rooms, lounge/bar & washroom. There was a huge selection on their menu, and the food definitely tasted fresh.

I have travelled extensively in South America and Asia and can hand on heart say this is the best hostel I have ever been to. Its like a boutique hotel with dorm beds, none of which comes at the expense of the atmosphere which is brilliant. The staff are really friendly, the food is good, the location is perfect and the beds are seriously comfortable . I will never consider staying anywhere else when I am in Guilin.

Booked a private room for 4 people. But when we arrived, we were told that our room was not available, so instead we were put in 2 separate rooms, which was fine since the staff was very nice about it.The rooms were clean and spacious. However, the electric plugs didn't work and there was no wifi signal in the rooms. Also, the lock to one of the rooms randomly stopped working. Staff were generally nice and helpful (helped book bamboo raft ride to Yangshuo as well as train tickets, $30 fee).

Pros: great, quiet location, polite staff, clean and comfy room (great shower!), downstairs lobby and bar were nice. Cons: wifi patchy, not much of an atmosphere when we were there (and breakfast "fruit juice" was at least partly made of some artificial concentrate). Stayed in May 2013

When I arrived at the hostel at 2 in the morning, they hadn't prepared the room I booked, so they gave us an upgraded room and expected us to pay for it even though it was not the room we booked. The room's bathroom was not ideal as the shower was on level with the toilet.

It was absolutely great to stay at your hostel! I particularly loved the fact that a transportation to the airport was arranged for me on my day of departure :)

Ming Palace Hostel is a little disorganized in their services. The staff is just about 3 people working on reception (1 per once) and 2 ladies working to clean all the hostel, and it's not enough considering it's a big building, full of rooms to administrate! When you arrive, you should wait a long time to do check-in because they spend lots of time to clean all rooms, and just in the end of the afternoon, maybe you can do check-in and make your bed by yourself.
