I have travelled extensively in South America and Asia and can hand on heart say this is the best hostel I have ever been to. Its like a boutique hotel with dorm beds, none of which comes at the expense of the atmosphere which is brilliant. The staff are really friendly, the food is good, the location is perfect and the beds are seriously comfortable . I will never consider staying anywhere else when I am in Guilin.

Pros: great, quiet location, polite staff, clean and comfy room (great shower!), downstairs lobby and bar were nice. Cons: wifi patchy, not much of an atmosphere when we were there (and breakfast "fruit juice" was at least partly made of some artificial concentrate). Stayed in May 2013

When I arrived at the hostel at 2 in the morning, they hadn't prepared the room I booked, so they gave us an upgraded room and expected us to pay for it even though it was not the room we booked. The room's bathroom was not ideal as the shower was on level with the toilet.

It was absolutely great to stay at your hostel! I particularly loved the fact that a transportation to the airport was arranged for me on my day of departure :)

Ming Palace Hostel is a little disorganized in their services. The staff is just about 3 people working on reception (1 per once) and 2 ladies working to clean all the hostel, and it's not enough considering it's a big building, full of rooms to administrate! When you arrive, you should wait a long time to do check-in because they spend lots of time to clean all rooms, and just in the end of the afternoon, maybe you can do check-in and make your bed by yourself.

We were fairly pleased with the hostel in general. We had a very spacious family style room and the heater/air worked well. We did not always get a hot shower - in the morning when many people took showers it was cold. The laundry facility was good for washing, but no place to dry and it was so humid it did not dry out in the 2 and a half days we were there. The tour booked by the hotel left us in Yuangsho with no direction as to how to return to Guilin.

I apologize in advance, I'm not exactly a typical hostel customer, but I really can not accept wording the place we stayed "Deluxe 2 Bed Family Room Ensuite" - without soap? without toilet paper? three days without emptying trash? If you are older than 23, skip this place. OK, it is cheap, the location is good, the bed is comfortable and the staff is pretty studious, but the conditions are less than elementary.

The showers are at same level with sink n toilet, so the floor was always wet. Hardly ever cleaned. Toilet smell coming from the shared bathrooms. Room 511 had a leak from ceiling and water went all over the mattress. Told the receptionist. She did not care. Dorms are cramped, small space. Some reading lights unavailable or broken. Mattress was comfy, though. No elevator.

I've been in China for 3 weeks and this is the best value for money hostel or hotel I have stayed at. I would stay here again. The atmosphere was good and it was very inviting.

This was one of the nicest hostels I've ever stayed at. We stayed in a double room and it almost felt like a hotel. It was big and clean. There was Internet in the room, The bathroom was clean. The staff was so helpful! I had a problem with my debit card and they were so kind to help me out. There was a great vibe overall and in a great location.

This place is great, as soon as I checked in your made feel welcome. The staff are very friendly and helpfull, they have team of ladies who clean the place every morning so its spotless! The rooms are good and beds are massive like having 2 double beds one on top of each other. Bathrooms are private cubicles in shared bathroom! I would defo recommend this place to anyone.

Room was very clean and comfortable. One staff member was patient and helpful while another was very difficult to understand and generally unhelpful. The city map provided by the hostel isn't very good so find your own if you can. Information given by hostel on tours, sights, etc. is very good. Attached cafe is very cheap! Overall a good place to stay!

I was a little disappointed with the wifi situation. Only available in the lobby. Not in the rooms. Then, the wifi in the lobby and the restaurant didn't even work. There was only one working computer in the lobby and they allowed some kid to sit there and watch movies on it all night. Not ideal...

Great little hostel with walking distance to many nearby attractions. Staff were very friendly in general, although getting food at the restaurant wasn't always easy. The dorm was clean, but I feel they should be more proactive with cleaning the bathrooms on a more regular basis. Overall a nice stay and would recommend it to friends.

Upon arrival we were extremely disappointed. The staff was less than helpful telling us incorrect information about trains and busses. We stayed in a 6 bed female dorm which was super cramped with an adjoining room with 4 more beds. The shared bathroom was pretty disgusting the garbage looked like it hasn't been taken out in a week and was overflowing onto the floor. The over cleanliness of the room was poor. Needless to say we stayed one night and left promptly the next day.

Clean and nice hostel. Beds and especially the pillow and cover were great. Nice bar with reasonable prices, were meeting other travellers is easy. from the hostel it was easy to go anywhere of interest in Guilin, and their description on how to arrive there was very excact and easy to follow. Would definately stay there again.

The staff was awesome. Marc and everyone at the front desk let me use their own computer to book my flight to HK. They gave me suggestions on where to go and stay and were just wonderful. The bathrooms didn't have much or any toilet paper and were dirty. The pillow on my bed also was too flat, which made sleeping hard Otherwise great time.

The rooms were not really clean but it's enough to spend there a few days (we were there two). There is one recepcionist who is not really helpful (at least he wasn't with us) but if you need a cheap hostel for a couple of days, this one is good.
