This guest house, while in a great location (close to many places mentioned in Lonely Planet) was almost unbearably hot. The family says they will be putting in AC very soon

Excelent location, near the main Gaths. Nice atmosphere. Monu, the owner, is always available to help, from where to eat to hiring a tuk-tuk driver to take us for a day in Sarnath ( a must do !). Varanasi in an exeotic destination, so, don´t expect the wide streets of Orlando em Vegas; Varanasi is more a lambirinth of uncleaned alleys... but that´s India, just enjoy. I do recomend.

We really enjoyed our stay at Monu's Guesthouse. The place looks really cool with all the different coloured painted walls. Our room was basic but clean and a really good size - very good value for money. It was great that a good padlock was provided for our room and as there is always someone in the reception/ground floor you do feel that your belongings are very safe. The location was perfect - just a few minutes to the ghat and river. Also, Monu was incredibly helpful and had great advice.

Very charming place! The rooms doesnt have windows but this is only positive the room is dark and quiet so you get a good night sleep.. you get towels, toilet paper and free wifi on the room.. And the family that runs the place are really sweet. I really recommend staying here!

Lovely colourful room very clean and very helpful staff. Real Indian feel about the place. Shame you have to walk through very smelly streets to get there but that's about the only downside and you'd probs get that anywhere. Close to burning ghats and ceremonies. Really great hostel! Monu GH is a small place with a lot of color. The rooms and roof are interesting. The location of the GH is pretty good - not too far from the river and in a somewhat-quiet alley. We had a little bit of trouble getting hot water, but Monu worked very hard to fix the issues. It's a nice place, but if you want to save a little money, there are some other places in the area which are a little cheaper.

exactly how it looked in the pictures. monu and his son were interesting and very helpful during our stay. recommend arranging transport on arrival as its difficult to get to initially !. however, on departure our arranged taxi tried to charge us 40Rs for "police" and 20Rs more at the airport for parking, we ended up walking 100 meters and didnt pay the 60Rs he was demanding. its 500Rs set. beware. he wore a cloth on his head and was unshaven and has a belly. our first driver was very nice

Thanks to the owner, Monu for meeting me and taking me to the hostel, the old town of Varanasi is like a maze! when you get your bearings though an excellent location, 5 minute walk down to the ghats. Great sized room and hot shower, for a 2 day stay don't need much else!

We loved it here! Genuine Indian homestay option in fantastic central location. Room is colourful and unique while being clean and well equipped. Family are extremely friendly and welcoming (I spent afternoon watching India playing cricket on the TV with them). Helpful when booking boat rides / transfers with all money going to driver. Definitely try and eat dinner at the home one night - delicious. If you are looking for something slightly different and unique this is it! Great value for money

The frustrating thing about Monu Guest House is finding it. If you don't take their pickup service, you'll have to ask a local, who will charge you (or the hostel) Rs 20. It would be nice if they had some small signs painted, or a good map to follow. Everything else was very nice about this super colorful building. Very friendly and talkative family, good wi-fi, clean bathrooms.

I will recommend this hostel to everyone, Monu and his family were very supportive and helpful, for a very economic price you get what you want, internet, a clean bed, toilet paper.. I can only say good things about this hostel. Thanks!

The guest house is in a great location and very handy. Onme minor comment is the attitude of the guy who run the place. He needs to be a bit more friendly and not to take things personally

Owner Comment (Show)
Dear guest !! Thank you for your review .. I am Monu and I think I ( Monu) or our family can not be more friendly than we are . I only know that you get respect if you give respect , so if you behave rudely , we can't be over friendly .. Just to let other travelers know about this person, he behaved very badly with me ( Monu) and was so rude when he was leaving ... He said that we make commission on everything which really had hurt my feeling !! I don't have to say more I guess !! Cheers :)

hotel is in a alleyway that is difficult to find, but once you get there, you can start navigating the old city with relative ease. it is somewhat central location though not along the river. they have good hot shower, one of the best i've ever got in india, along with free wifi (very rare in india) and a comfortable bed. monu and his family is welcoming, and kept their house clean. with only 5 rooms there, it is a little difficult to get the community spirit going on though.
