I got there early and was able to leave my bags there. The staff did not speak any english. I wanted to eat their resetaurant but everything was sold out for the day. I stayed in the dorm and was the only person staying in the entire guesthouse so there was no one to talk to. It was really cold but I was given 2 blankets and a mattress heater. The next morning the restaurant and reception was closed until passed 11am. I was told the night before to just leave my keys on the table.

It had been raining on us all day by the time we checked in, so we were all tired, cold, and miserable. When we arrived, we were told that the 8-bed, dorm-style room we had booked had been filled, so we were put in a WONDERFUL, private, 2-bedroom suite (with perfectly clean bathroom and kitchen facilities) instead. It was GREAT in every way - warm, clean, comfortable, safe, and staff was fantastic. We were so lucky with the way everything turned out - it was a perfect experience.

Confirmed my booking with the hotel and made sure to confirm the time I would arrive. Turned up and the entire hostel was closed. Had to call the 'emergency number' 5 times before it was answered, and then had to wait 25 minutes in the freezing cold for someone to turn up. Barely any hot water, linen was dirty, no key for my own room (i.e. no security), no customer service, description of services provided on the website completely false, no staff present. WILL NOT BE COMING BACK.

There are two hostels with the same name: one in front of Tobu Nikko Station, and another at the mountainside. We stayed at the last one. The place was very clean, and in fact it was more like a family house. The atmosphere is great, and the staff is always friendly and willing to help you out with anything you need. The room was quite empty but for us both, but it was very cozy. You don't need to worry about your stuff being stolen, either. Just remember to go back before it darkens!

Located perfectly just 5min walk from JR Nikko station and 3min walk from Tobu Nikko station where all the busses go to the World Heritage site, the waterfalls and the mountains. The owners spoke excellent English and told me everything I need to know about Nikko. Very clean beds, showers, bathrooms and toilets. Breakfast is not included but they have a small restaurant where you can get good breakfast and diner. Wifi is perfect! Don't hesitate and just BOOK HERE!!!
