The place to be in SC (stayed 7days). The rooms can get quiet cold especially if there was no sun at daytime but they provide 2 additional blankets and most important, the shower is clean and very hot. A big plus is the fireplace in the common room & the kitchen. Breakfast is superb and we miss already their homemade jam! Regarding Hyena the old Dog, they should provide him a nicer place to sleep and there's really no need to kick him out of the warm common room if all guests are happy with him.
Great hostel located close to the Zocalo and good restaurants. The staff really know the area and good spots to eat and drink, all of their recommendations were terrific. Not a party hostel but a very laid back and chilled atmosphere.
Lovely bed in the female dorm, and great en suite. Very well run hostel with lovely breakfast. Easy to meet people, everyone quite chilled out, nice to hang out by the fire when it's cold! One thing to note - if you get up to leave really early (I got up at 5AM) make sure you have a torch as all the lights are turned off overnight, sounds obvious I know. They also left the breakfast stuff out so that I could eat really early :)
One of the best hostels we stayed at whilst in Mexico. The staff were very helpful. Breakfast was great (especially the homemade jam). And it was super clean. It's a shame that lights went out in the common areas at 10 because it killed the atmosphere a little. I didn't like the way the night security guard kicked/hit the hostel dog either, very cruel.
This is a wonderful hostel. I wish we could have stayed longer. It is a bit of a walk from downtown, but it is well worth the 10 minutes. Very clean and cute, this is not a place where you will be swarmed by dirty barefoot, partying 20 somethings. The kitchen is well stocked and plenty of space to sit and relax outside of your room. The internet was a little slow, but it worked and it gives you more reason to meet other travelers. Highly recommended.
This is a lovely place to stay, with an excellent diy breakfast included with eggs, cereals, fresh fruit, bread
Great breakfast. Absolutely a great deal and great place to stay. Far enough from the main streets that its quiet at night but close enough to everything to walk to
Great free breakfast! Highly recommend it! The dormitory just for women was excellent - there were four bunk beds and its own private bathroom with a good hot shower.

Very nice hostel, great breakfast, loved the homemade jam!!
Excellent place! good breakfast, wi-fi, very nice rooms (though a bit chilly at night), helpful staff, and a room with a fireplace. amazing, especially for this price!
Very nice owners, great mexican-style patio (or even 3:), very large and enjoyable common space with many different options to rest and meet people (sofas, hammocks, sunbeds, couches). Not far to the city center. Definitely worth money.
We really enjoyed staying here! The stuff organised our tours and they were helpfull in any way. They even got up for us at 4 am, to make breakfast, because we had to leave early. We haven't seen that any where else. The Breakfast was very good, for what we payed (coffee, fruit, 2 eggs, bread, homemade jam....). The hostel itself is a very nice place to hang out. We definitely recommend this hostel!!!
I will definitly go back there, it is so calm and friendly, very good breakfast and coffee (wich is kind of rare in Mexico). Super well situated, on a calm street but close to everything. One of the best !!
Great Place to stay! Great Staff, a special thanks for Marco !
Great well located hostel, with some nice added features such as Breakfast, Fireplaces, places to hang-out. A unique and great place to stay in SC
Posada del Abuelito is probably my best hostel experience this trip ( out of 8 I stayed in). Very well located, extremely clean and well maintained, good breakfast ( the spread was laid out early enough for those leaving in the wee hours), and extremely affordable. Would definitely stay here when I visit San Cristobal again. I am told cancellation can be a bit hairy but did not have that problem.
Excellent posada, delicious breakfast, and we really appreciated all the tips, arrangements, tours, etc that were offered. We had an excellent time and would very happily return (in the warmer months!). Thanks for providing so many blankets, a cosy fire, and excellent facilities. The water pressure in our room (#8) was sometimes incredibly low (almost non-existent) and at times the hot water didn't work. when this happened, we simply used the dorm showers (which always worked perfectly).
This was our favourite hostel in Mexico! The atmosphere was so great and cosy. I really loved the free breakfast but better to get up early if you want to get the fruit which goes quickly. The common room with the fire place provided a warm place to relax and play cards or socialise in the cool evenings. The rooms were clean and there were always staff constantly cleaning but there were a couple of bathroom hand towels that did not seem to get changed. Other than that it was perfect! Paradise :)

Very nice and clean hostel. Cooking your own breakfast from supplies that hostel offers is a good idea. Also common room with fireplace is very nice especially when it's super cold outside!
