I stayed 4 days in this hostel and it was the best place in a 6 weeks China trip. Staff is more than nice and helpful, the place has an awesome atmosphere and on arrival, the gave me three coupons for free beer at their bar and a coupon for cake (50% off). Everything was perfectly clean (if it wasn't for a person directly before me in the bathroom leaving it dirty). The location is superb - 15 mins walk from the railway station and all the nice places withing walking distance. Recommendation!!
I absolutely loved my stay at Kaiyue Hostel- it was friendly, pretty and had the best atmosphere of anywhere I've ever stayed! I loved the combination of a lively and cool bar below with an artsy decor, and the fact that it felt like it had been passed through by many travellers before. It had a really great feel, with really co-operative staff and the next time I'm in Qingdao, I will definitely be staying there again! Thank you!

It would be helpful to have more english speaking staff with recommendations. I had to find most things on my own.
Very good hostel, especially liked the commons/food area. Only problem we had was the instructions to the hostel from the station were quite vague and we spent some time lost before we found it.
I really enjoyed staying in this hostel, but I thought I would enjoy the city more. The location of this hostel is in the old town, which is close to many attractions but not close to the other places so do your research the best you can. You will need to ride a bus to many places, but that is how Qingdao is. The facilities were as clean as they could make them. Definitely the best value for your money. Perhaps they could've offered more information about all the attractions.
Great hostel for the weary and inexperienced traveler, or an excellent reprieve for the seasoned one. Was my second time being here and I'd definitely be back!
(only commenting on the atmosphere, the rest is fine!) This hostel does pretty much everything right, and is certainly not ashamed to be "old"--it's shabby, weathered, but in an extremely comfortable way. I only stayed a couple nights and wholeheartedly regret not choosing Qingdao as a place to relax for a week or two here. The library upstairs is serene, and the bar/coffee shop, while expensive compared to outside, is probably the best lounge space I've seen in a hostel ever. Stay here.
Very nice place cozy with a huge common area. We booked a double room, but I think we ended up with a family room, wich was great for the sapce. A little bit of dust on the ground, but nothing we can't handdle.
Stayed 2 nights in a privat twin bed room. The room and the bathroom are quite basic, but clean and okay value for the money. The advantage of the Kayiue is it's location, the lounge and the mixed crowd of guests.
GRATE LOCATION IN EAST PART OF THE CITY. BATHROOM AND TOILET A LITTLE MESSY BUT TOLERABLE. GENERALLY SPEAKING, NICE HOSTEL TO RECOMMEND.
Great location with a bar\restaurant downstairs. Clean rooms and bathrooms. I'd highly recommend it!
This hostel not my cup of tea! mouldy and dark ! Yet The dark stuffy restaurant has great food and drinks!
Common area was very nice. Beds were clean but bathrooms could use a little work. Directions to get to the hostel were unclear and sounded like you needed to take a bus (which was hard to locate) and walk10 minutes, but it's really one or the other. They have slips of paper with popular destinations written in Chinese for taxi drivers, which was helpful. Internet connection was not good. This is the only hostel I've ever stayed in where staff will not help guests book train tickets.
The staff was very unfriendly. And some of them did not speak English, so it's hard to communicate with them.

little bit hard to find the place at first, but after a while it's ok. really good location, there are bus stops very near. and at night, it is very good to hang out and enjoy good food and amazing beer around this place.
Enjoyed our stay here. Good size room, comfy bed, quiet at night and good drapes to keep light out. On the second floor we did hear the music from the lounge until midnight, but after that was OK. Yes, it is an old building, and there is a mustiness, but the air con in the room helped a lot once turned on. Wi fi worked well. Lots of food in area, make sure you try crazy red hair lady's place on the food street. minor complaints: room floor dirty, smoking allowed in lounge. Great value!
Great location and the staff were very helpful!
Really easy to get to the hostel....the bus drops you 2 minutes walk from the hostel. The staff were so lovely and helpful! Great city, great hostel, great location! :) Would definitely stay again!
Very nice hostel in the old part of Qingdao. Very nice bar with Western Food and cheap beer. You can also rent bikes for 30 rmb a day to discover this nice city. I really enjoyed my stay there a lot.
