Great service, great location, great people, nice bar, comfortable rooms. The staff are all friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this as your base in Qingdao.

The hostel is very hard to find... indications given by the hostel are not accurate enough for a cab driver... one of the street (guanxiang er lu) is most of the time being confused with the street guanxiang yi lu... which is not the same at all... The room was stinky, which is very disappointing, smell of toilet and sewage. The heating system is ok slow (it is not aircon). Except for 1 person, the other people do not speak proper english. The rooftop terrace was closed. All the rest was fine.

We enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and there were not any issues. The in-house food was a little expensive given the amount of food that was on each plate. The free Friday night Seafood Buffet was a little deceiving. The food provided was not a enough to be considered a meal. It was just a snack. The staff was excellent. They were very helpful and helped us navigate our way around the area. The hostel had a very comfortable and mellow feel. We would absolutely stay here again.

Maybe one can't expect anything more for 25 yuan/night, but overall I was rather disappointed. The toilet, e.g., was small and, well, not very clean, and there was only one roll of toilet paper for both men and women W.C.'s which is maybe convenient for the staff to change, but not for the users. Taps in the bathroom were also inconvenient: water used to turn on for a couple of sec. then off and then on again: lot of fun, eh? Oh, did I mention it was only cold water in the taps? Well it was.

Located at the top of a hill means a nice view from the rooftop terrace (with a good bar), the way up is easy by cab and walking isn't too bad. Reception girl was a bit crumpy, though waiting staff upstairs was really nice. Overall cleanness was fair but they could do much better on this point. Overall the building could use a small renovation to upgrade, though for these prices you can’t complain too much of course.

Nice view, good location, walkable distance to the attractions and bus stations. They do have 4 public shower rooms but locked 2 for don't know why. So guests have to wait in line to get showered. What's worse is I actually saw cockroach climbing on the floor and both of us had bug bits, am now having skin rash ...

The rooms were some of the biggest we stayed in for that price and with a massive window. And the roof bar was cosy and a relaxed place to have a drink and a chat. It was a shame that the kitchen had been closed, because there was a market selling good, cheap ingredients around the corner and it would have been perfect to be able to cook for a change.

This place has the best view of Qingdao and the staff is really friendly! In the weekend there's a free BBQ burger and for only 20 RMB all the Tsingtao beer you want.

This hostel was recommended by a friend and as soon as we arrived we could see why. Nice, clean rooms, very helpful staff and a really chilled out vibe. We loved the BBQ with unlimited beer on the Saturday night, such good value.

When I decided to visit Qingdao again, I directly knew, that I will go again to the Old Observatory Hostel, where I stayed in 2008. The Hostel is nice, clean, offers good breakfast and an amazing view over Qingdao and the sea from the Rooftop Terrace. The staff and the service is really great. I was so stupid to forget my back in the bus and the staff from Old Observatory Hostel, kept calling the Bus Company again and again to make sure, that I get my bag back and which I finally did. Thank you

Inaccessible. Staff not helpful in explaining how to get off the mountain and out of the park. it was like "Hotel California" It literally took me an hour to find my way out of the park after encircling the steep hill and always landing back at the hostel. Taxis refuse to pick you up.Exhausted from getting to and from the hostel so I had little energy left for walking or touring Qingdao. A very upsetting experience. Only public space is grubby roof with electric wires Free barbecue on roof.

There is only good to tell about this hostel. The Stuff is exceptionally helpful and welcoming. Not just because of the rooftop lounge with excellent view over the city is the atmosphere great. The price is fair and you get a great hostel. It's the no. 1 Adress in Qingdao and the guests are very mixed. I highly recommend this Hostel.

Hostel is nice. I liked the rooftop terrace and staff. Can imagine the location could be a downer for some people, but taxi's are cheap anyway, so can't really complain about that. Actually liked the location, since there's some fresh air and a breeze up the hill. Overall well above average.
