Fantastic flashpacker hostel in a quiet street close to good street food stalls, restaurants and transport links. The hostel is very clean and tidy and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful in answering questions about what to do and where to go in Penang. Note: most if not all concerns/feedback given below have been taken on-board and adopted or integrated into Ryokan.

The hostel was of a good standard and the staff was friendly and helpful. Wide beds, although the blankets where to small. As to the atmosphere, I would rather hang out somewhere else. The hallway on the accomodation floor was murky and although they had a "reading corner" I would not think of using it.

though not a Japanese-style Ryokan, as the name might suggest, I loved the sophisticated design, but especially the cleanliness of the rooms, shower, toilet, etc. The beds with thick matresses have each their own power socket, reading lamp, shelf. The lockers in the 6-bed dorm do not allow large backpacks, cabin bags in, but are large enough for a lot of other small stuff, such as daypacks, etc. Breakfast ist o.k. with coffee or tea, toast, margarine, 3 types of spread, bananas. ..

Very helpful and friendly staff. The bathrooms and rooms were just as clean as they should be. The only negative thing to say is that you could hear everything that moved in the hallway from the room. However, since there were few guests staying there at the time we were there, this did not bother us much.

If you want to have a nice sleep at night, forget about ryokan. The 2nd level wood floor creates so much noise when ppl walk by, \"Dong Dong Dong\" how can you sleep well ! Others are still ok, with 3 free ipad surfing, athough the speed is a bit slow. The staff are quite nice and helpful.

I don't know why, but it seemed to be more a place where families liked to stay. At least when I was tehre, I didn't met that much people in my age (19). But the staff was lovely! The hostel is located in the central, has ipads for use, and is clean and safe. I would definately stay there again!

Hi, the service staff was Amazing, Shah, Winnie, & Edwin made the stay very pleasent. The area was clean & spotless even in the 4 bed bunk room. I will certainly share Ryokan to my friends looking for a down town accomodation. Thumbs up!

I truly enjoyed my stay. After a week of traditional Malaysian combined toilet and showering facilities, I really liked the Western style and extremely clean bathroom and toilet facilities. Also, Winnie and the night front desk guy were always extremely friendly and helpful. Winnie went the extra mile and showed us how she and her family celebrated the Hokkien New Year. But light sleepers beware, many of the other hostel guests do not understand how to walk lightly on the wooden floor boards

Nice hostel in a great location!! Very clean and nice design inside the guesthouse. Guests, please walk silently on the wooden floor, sometime it is quite disturbing when people walking in the hostel like an elephant passing by. Anyway, I love their shower room so much and the reading corner too.

The hostel itself was nice and great for any size groups. That being said, we noticed there was a very large family the last few days we were there with children running all over the place at all times (3am?!?!) which made it kind of unpleasant. The staff were generally friendly but not extremely helpful with places to go/how to get there, but they tried when they could.

Good, but noisy due to original timber floor. Maybe put up more signs about being quiet!.

I can recommend this place. It is in the backpacker's district, clean and spacious. However, this is not the best place to meet other people. There is a common room but there are few people, there is also no bar or restaurant at the entrance unlike at other guesthouses. But you might even prefer this, depends on your taste. Facilities are top, except for the blanket which is rather small and thus can be a bit unpleasant if the aircon is on.

We found Ryokan was very modern and the staffs there were also quite nice. We lived at the loft, so we have attached bathroom. The room was quite clean except the floor was a bit sandy. The wifi signal at the loft was also very poor, so we need to go downstairs to access the internet. However, Ryokan has provided two Ipad 2 at the chill out corner which i found it was very trendy n comfortable. We also celebrated a simple new year's countdown with Ryokan's staffs and it was very fun!

This is a really stylish Hostel - they even have Ipads in the common area for everybodys usage. The rooms were really small but ok. The staff was very helpul! When we had to check out at 4 am to get our bus to Thailand the guy at the reception stayed up for us!! The only thing we didn't like that much were the bathrooms.... there was a kind of nasty smell coming out of the trash bin and the toilets were always wet.

Best hostel i've ever been in! Its very clean, staffs are friendly, and they have a huge 50" TV for the guests. iPads are also available for browsing and relaxing, and i love the little reading corner they have too! Cafe serves good beverages, and I made quite a few friends chilling over beer. Would definitely return again!

Very expensive! BLANKETS AND TOWEL NOT INCLUDED! Also no breakfast. Rather unfriendly staff. Very small dorm rooms, low price/value factor. Very thin walls, loud: footsteps in the hallway were echoing and vibrating so that trying to sleep was futile. No windows! In General very clean, look modern style (ipads as inet connection).
