I would recommend Ryokan GH to most people, for a couple of days stay. It has very good facilities, the use of a communal iPad is a nice touch. The bathroom area is the best I've seen in any guesthouse, wonderful showers with an endless supply of hot water, and always clean. The 4 bed dorms are 'cozy', with good quality bed bunks, mattresses and bedding, the air con is a welcome addition. The overall feel, is quite functional. The downstairs area could be 'softened', for added character.

good location and kind staff. Just the wooden floor is a little bit noisy when a group of people pass by together...

Good location, quick check in and check out. Clean. Breakfast quite basic but ok, lack of privacy as toilets and shower are very close. Can be a bit noisy when guest walk or talk loudly. Air conditionning in room difficult to fix and get the right temperature.

Great location and good breakfast for a Malaysian hostel (eggs, toast, fruit etc.). The dorm rooms were very small (I was in a four bed) and the lockers aren't big enough to hold a big bag, but will fit a day pack etc. The mattresses and pillows were very hard, but good for the back I guess! Friendly guests who it was nice to hang out with and explore the town etc.

Loud floors and squeeky bunk beds. I recommend ear plugs for this place. Nice reading area, okay breakfast, swanky atmosphere, quite good bathrooms with nice showers.

excellent staff who go out of there way to help you, need to create a more social environment. That is why people stay in hostels to meet people.

Good quality guest house. Had just about everything that I was looking for: Self-controlled A/C en suite, individual power points, WiFi, nice breakfast, and large bathroom. Only downsides were: No guests to socialize with (I was the only one in my six bed dorm.), and impersonal staff. Worth it if you're looking for a low key spot to rest your head in Georgetown.

We had a really great stay. Couldn't get the AC down to a reasonable temperature though. Even set at its lowest setting it blew so hard and we were freezing. Our roommate wouldn't let us turn off the AC so I could only sleep by wearing a sweater and pants..crazy considering the heat outside! Much too strong AC for the size of the room and too thin a blanket provided.

Everything is good. Cheap, clean, towel & breakfast included, it's worthy to stay here. But one thing that this hostel need to be considered is the wooden floor. I can hear every step when somebody walk in the corridor.

Stayed in a 4 person dorm...quite a small room with no windows. But the A/C was quiet and worked well. Only complaint is that the bathrooms are not at all private. The toilets were directly across from the showers and all could be heard.

On my mental checklist of ideal hostels, this check almost every box. Good location. Good beds (plus each bunk had its own cubby with a reading light and outlets, which was pretty fantastic.) Lockers (although I wish they'd been a tad bigger as they don't fit a standard backpack). Good wifi. Helpful Staff. Decent breakfast. Plenty of public places to lounge and work. The only disappointment was that they appeared to have an outdoor roof space which was shut down the whole time I was there.

- We had a small, noisy room with no windows. The AC was in 2 meters front of my bed, so I had a risk to get cold while sleeping. + Everything else. Nice and helpful staff, good location on a calm street in the center. Showers with hot water (which is not very common in Malaysia), free shampoo and towels. Clean bathrooms. Definitely a great place for its price.

Ryokan has potential but in reality has little atmosphere. The facilities are nice but the general clientele are selfish and rude, shouting and running up and down the hallway until all hours, loudly snorting out every cavity of their nasal passages and having loud phone conversations in public areas. Most people here are glued to their technology and don't talk to others. Cleanliness is fine but as with all establishments that insist on the "wall of shoes", it smells bad most of the time.

Very clean, modern hostel, a step above the other backpacker offerings around Chulia/Muntri street. Although the hostel is particularly noisy, dorm walls are thin, so bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. Would recommend this hostel to anyone.

Hostel was clean, dorms were very small was expecting a little more room. About 15 minute walk from Pier where ferry drops you off. Nice and close to Red Dragon food market with lots of food options.
