About

The Frame Guesthouse is a three-story heritage shophouse in George Town, Penang, that was once home to a frame maker’s shop. Today, it has been thoughtfully transformed into a guesthouse that preserves the building’s original character while incorporating regional design elements to create a distinctive and memorable experience.

Guided by a commitment to authenticity, functionality, and materials that age gracefully, we restored only what was necessary and preserved the building’s timeless charm. Original concrete floors, walls, and surfaces were left with minimal treatment. Rough, peeling textures and visible traces of removed electrical fittings were deliberately preserved to showcase the raw, honest beauty of the space.

Our slogan, “Frame the Right Moment,” reflects our mission to help guests capture meaningful memories. Inspired by the building’s past as a frame maker’s shop, it encourages travelers to treasure the moments, whether exploring George Town’s heritage, relaxing in our spaces, or connecting with fellow adventurers.

On the ground floor, you’ll find R COFFEE CO., a popular café known for its artisanal coffee, where guests can enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the neighborhood.

Located in the heart of George Town’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Frame Guesthouse offers easy access to major attractions, making it the perfect choice for those seeking a unique, affordable, and character-rich stay.

Really nice hostel. Not the quietest as walls are very thin. Was a little hard to find hostel at first as you have to walk into R caffe. Was very clean and had nice common areas. Great location and nearby shops for food. Has a communal fridge. Place to do laundry for 8RM nextdoor. About 1hr from ESCAPE Penang. Less social than some hostels but still very nice. Can hear mosque, which I thought was pretty cool.

Great staff and a good coffee. Not really a social place and they could do so much in the backyard to make it nicer. All in all an ok experience.

Felt like quite a new hostel. Stayed in a big 16 bed dorm, but there was only 2/3 people including me so not a lot going on. No social atmosphere. They have the sweetest cats though. The kitchen was definitely for aesthetic purposes didn’t have any real function. Ended up having a mouldy pillow case (which shouldn’t be acceptable). Nice hot showers. Shame no lock on the door to dorm as anyone could get in. Just the little things need to be improved.
