The hotel is a little far from the centre and the station, but they are very well prepared for this, they facilitate bikes and they take you to the station if needed. Quality-price is very good. Rooms are great and staff wonderful.

Solid Ryokan hostel. Little out of the way but you are given free bike usage which is great and makes getting into town a nice ride. Well priced hostel

This was my favorite place we stayed in Japan. The Japanese breakfast (and the Western) are very good and interesting. We even got to try on a kimono, which was really fun (very reasonable cost as well). The hosts are very accommodating to what you want, with little nice touches (a thermos of hot water to make tea when you come back in the evening, for example). I slept great in the Japanese style room, and loved the bath each night. I highly recommend this place as a wonderful experience!

A little far from the centre but pick up and drop off service worked well and there are restaurants nearby. Can borrow bike if you are brave enough! Great room and hot bath, only complaint was that aircon broke down - owner provided a fan which was fine

This is an interesting combination between a ryokan and a hostel and the price and amenities reflect that. I had a great time here and I owe it mostly to the kind and patient staff. Their participation in Matsumoto's free bike lending service was an unexpected bonus and I hope that everyone who visits will take advantage of it. I have absolutely no complaints and hope I can stay here a second time if I visit Matsumoto again.
