The hostel itself was very clean, although the building itself seemed rather old. This includes the facilities that all had a somewhat old touch to them. The room was clean but rather small (we've had bigger rooms in Tokyo). The staff was very helpful and has great recommendations for food.
This place definitely needs some renovation. It is the least cleanest hostel we’ve had in Japan, everything’s worn out. In the room, there was absolutely no privacy as basically, you just have 6 futons in an empty room. What is annoying: Wifi did not work in the room (4th floor) and there was only one shower (!) for the whole place. The common areas are pretty alright, though, staff were really friendly. The location is good, everything you need is in short distance. We can recommend the little

Most wonderfull staff in Japan! They make you feel at home. Speak very good english and know a lot about the Beppu and area to show you around very well. Would defenitely stay there again.
Loved this place! The bath was really nice, and they also have a cozy foot bath (also using the natural onsen water) outside the entrance! Nice common area with a woody feel, lots of manga to read. Stayed in a girls dorm, had a private toilet and sink shared between 3 of us which was really nice :) The staff were really nice and make an effort to make the place friendly and international with the reception decorated with lots of country flags :)
Situated in the surprisingly interesting city of Beppu. Facilities are clean and good but not the best, however the kitchen and lounge/manga room are very good, both with large TVs. Various maps of staff-recommended onsen, site-seeing locations and restaurants are pinned up along the walls which were very useful. Good beach across the road and is close to some bigger beaches. Visit the Kannawa Jigoku, an experience unique to Beppu - also visit Cafe Green Spot, a short walk from the hostel.
The staff speaks amazing English and is extremely friendly. The PCs in the lobby were extremely useful. Also the free bike rentals were a nice touch. Best part about it was the in house onsen, only problem is that in the men's onsen there is no conditioner. The room was very spacious and the tatami floors were nice but my room had a very unpleasant smell that I could not get rid of. All in all, nice hostel! Cheap and friendly
Very nice 3 nights spent here ! We are very satisfied of this stay ! The only bad point was the weather :p ! The staff is sooo nice :D and the facilities are perfect too ! I definitivly recommand this hostel ! (The spa in the hostel learn you "how to onsen" like a japanese, perfect for the beginners)
We were so lucky to have found this hostel! First, the location is so convenient! Just 3 blocks from train station and super close to bus stops and all major attractions in Beppu! Second, cleanliness to very high standards! Third, staff was soooo friendly, even had a free Takoyaki BBQ for great socializing! Fourth, onsen in hostel very nice. Five, it is super cheap! Unbelievable value! Stayed in many hostels and this one is much better than even "higher ranking" hostels. Beppu's best kept secret

The level of cleanliness and attention to details, for japan standard, is definetly low. Only 1 shower per floor, and is not pleasant at all. Sure you have the onsen but it really has a bad look, poorly mantained and cold. Common areas are big enough but they still suffer from a general lack of taste. It is still a sound choice for the low price but it could improve a lot the quality of staying, with a few adjustment.
this was a really nice place with helpful staff and convenient location. the in house onsen was a pleasant treat making the place even nicer to stay. plus the staff were very friendly and helpful
A really nice location with even its own little Onsen. The staff speaks really good English and is very helpful.
Sweet as hostel really. Nice hot onsen.
Awesome staff who are able to give you suggestions on the best places to eat and see. Facility also has an onsen in house that you can access all throughout the night. There were only a couple showers, and no personal electronics outlets in bunk beds but didn't bother me though. Rooms had lockers for valuables, and beds were fine. Great social area that we used to hang out with other backpackers. Very relaxing place! Would def stay there again! Thanks!
Very well managed, good staff, good facilities.
Very nice plus that they have an onsen within the hostel which can save you money on paying for other onsens in the city. Pretty good location and very nice staff. If you end up on the last floor like I did and have a heavy bag you will need help since they have no elevators, but the view is amazing from the last room.
Less toilet than expected. Room clean. Kitchen room is OK.
