Very loud, rooms are very narrow with thin walls...

One of the nicest hostel i have been. They have good CDs they should play them :) I was only disappointed by the bike they rented to me.
very well, staff very kind and Shaxi is wonderfull
Good vibe, friendly staff, excellent location. All in all, one of the best YHAs in China. Be sure to spend there two days in order to really enjoy the lovely town of Shaxi and it's surroundings.
The staff was rather disorganized. There were problems with bookings several times and with the preparations of rooms. And they seemed with one or two exceptions not to care. They were hanging out with each other, eating, and plaing on instruments. The rooms were rather small with a WC in the middle of the room close to the beds. Good that they kept it clean, and it was admittetly rather cheap.
First rate staff; friendly, welcoming and very very helpful. We were eating a Vegan diet and the staff directed us to what appeared to be a private home and courtyard; they had given us a note in Chinese to explain our needs and the lady of the household we went along to took us into her kitchen to see all the (fresh) ingredients she had on hand including freshly picked wild mushrooms. The atmosphere at Shaxi was first rate and I could have happily just stayed and relaxed.
I had great hopes for this hostel. Shaxi is FANTASTIC and the location of the hostel is outstanding. The Old Tree cafe nearby is great and the people that run it are super lovely. However most of the hostel staff (except one guy, who was lovely and helpful) didn't really seem that bothered to make people feel welcome. Additionally the shared bathrooms should've been cleaned much more regularly, they got pretty gross. But with limited options I guess you could give it a go.
