This hostel is hands down the best hostel I have ever stayed. Everything about the independente is perfect: it's charm, it's location, it's rooms, and most importantly it's staff. My friend and I stayed for 6 nights and by the second day we were treated like family by everybody there. It was a sad day to leave. However, this hostel is reason enough to go back to Lisbon. 110%!!!!!

This hostel was AMAZING. The staff, the breakfast, the room, the people were awesome. And it was peaceful in general, too!

Clean and spacious hostel. Staff were friendly and helpful and there was always someone around to answer any questions. Great location for sight seeing during the day and there were some great restaurants and bars right on the doorstep.

I spotted the Independente in the New York Times travel section and knew I had to check it out. The building and location are both stunning, atop one of Lisbon's loveliest hills, in the very hip Barrio Alto. The staff, especially Manuel the Guest Relations Manager, went above and beyond to make sure my friend and I had a great time in Lisbon and I'm very grateful for it! Next time I'm in Lisbon I will definitely be staying in one of their suites.

Everything was perfect except the showers which lack space to leave our stuff.

Best choice for backpackers and young travellers. Very helpful staff and friendly atmosphere. The beautiful miradouro nearby can turn REALLY noisy during saturday nights (it could be quite hard to sleep) but the sight worths it all. A genuine deal.

So... I needed a break from routines in Madrid, and Easter week provided a holiday long enough to go somewhere interesting, with museums, good food, and good music... like Lisbon! The lists and reviews of hostels suggested that The Independente could be a welcoming place for older travelers... and it was. Activities for younger travelers, too. Really helpful, attentive staff. Housed in a beautiful old building with plenty of space and memorable city views.

We loved this hostel! Loved the dinners and Manuel, one of the managers was great to us-- he sat down with my friend and I for about 40 minutes and mapped out a whole day for us! Despite the rain, we still had a great time and we owe it to you guys! Loved the little common area that everyone hung out in!

The Independente was one of the most amazing hostels ever! It has an awesome atmosphere that really cannot be beat in the area. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are incredibly clean. If you are looking for an awesome experience, try the pub crawl offered at the hostel. It's a blast! I highly recommend this hostel to anyone who feels the urge to visit Lisbon, and would definitely stay here again.

Location is the best thing about this hostel, and also it is definitely a beautiful hostel. But there are some points I don't like; like between rooms there are closed doors so that you hear every little noise from next room, other thing is that there are bunk beds in rooms and they are 3 beds high, so if you are not at the bottom, you feel every move, even when some one was walking in the room, my bed was shaking (I was on the second bed).. And there are no curtains to have your privacy..

Beautiful hostel in a great location. Not necessarily as great a place to meet fellow travelers as some places I've stayed, but it's in a great location, so you can go out and have a good time right around the corner. Breakfast includes the usual bread/corn flakes/coffee and also some ham & cheese, fruit and granola.

Best location in all of lisbon! You are not in a party hostel because the party is outside and all around you. You are in the heart of the night life but at the same time you can come back to your hostel and feel so relaxed and comfortable. The staff is great and the bar and restaurant downstairs is fantastic. You view outside the hostel is pictures c! bathrooms i felt were clean every hour or so, super clean rooms as well! also very close to metro stop. Best bang for you buck GUARANTEED!

This place is amazing! Clean, cool, authentic, and a great bang for the buck. Great location, although give yourself at least 45 minutes on the subway to get there from airport. Independente combines the hostel feeling with high quality, glassy acommodations. I highly recommend!

First of all the location is very good, it is near of many must see things! Poleople are very kind. Food and price are good In bathroom you don't have many places where to put the clothes when you are showering especially if in all 4 shower cabin are people. My rating 9/10

I enjoyed to stay in the Independente Hostel for 5nights. I came there alone, there were so many group travellers that I could not really get involved in. But the staffs are nice. Facilities are really great, even though the room was a bit dark lack of lights. But you need to write more precisely to get to the hostel from the metro.
