Otarunai is a hostel that you would miss the minute you are checking out =) I had an enjoyable stay!
i was sorry to experience inconvenience with using hot water in sink and minami otaru staion is much better to find morinoki (it takes some time from otaru station..) but the cozy atmosphere was so good!
Interesting host. A lot of happening at this place.Great Japanese style guesthouse.
One of the best places to stay in Hokkaido if not Japan. The people here are wonderfully warm, friendly and welcoming. There is both excellent breakfasts and dinners available for excellent prices (Seriously cheaper then even the old 7/11 dinner). Cannot recommend highly enough!
The owner is very knowledgeable; the breakfast option was so good; the staff in general were so kind and made me feel like part of the family. I went out one night with some of them and definitely talked with them a bunch. The location is 10 minutes tops from the canal. Lovely place and lovely city
staff is friendly and helpful, place is clean. so everythings fine here. only thing is that due to thin or nonexisting walls its not possible to sleep longer than 8am
The staff is very kind, the hostel homey and clean. Not too far from central Otaru. If you have a car it is a good place to stay and take day trips around Hokkaido. I will definately stay there again. They serve dinner and breakfast for around 500yen. All in all an absolute pleasure stay there.

This was a very nice place to stay, and the staff were incredibly nice and accommodating! We especially liked the facilities, which were really cozy :)! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
I didn't spend too much time actually at the hostel, but it was a very nice stay. It was frustratingly difficult to find though.
A really cool and homey hostel where i have stayed. The owner and the staff have been with great hospitality and they offer really good breakfast for a small amount of money. It is a traditional japanese style house and the owner seems to be a great reader with a great collection of comics and books. Hes also a jazz lover. The location is not close to the busy touristy area which is perfect. Some people might find it a bit far away tho. Its only 15 mins walk to the famous river.
