This hostel was GREAT! Shannon and Chris make you feel right at home. There was always something fun going on, so if your a solo traveler like myself...youll make friends fast ( if not you can sit around and play Jumangi). I would definatly recomend this place if your looking for a comfy bed and great atmosphere.

IT'S A GREAT PLACE TO STAY IF YOU WANT A REAL HOSTEL EXPERIENCE! Loved it! I cannot understand the expectations of people leaving negative comments here! This hostel provides everything you need: typical hostel breakfast, the front door was always locked, the stuff must have not slept at all because they were ALWAYS around&helpful!! The puppy is well trained and DOES NOT go into the rooms! There was NO weird smell at all!!! IF PEOPLE WANT THE LUXURY OF A HOTEL THEY SHOULD NOT BOOK A HOSTEL!

FIrst off, Shannon and Chris are fantastic! The bathrooms do need a remodel, but they're fully functional and even though there are only 2 1/2 bathrooms, we never had to wait to use them. Breakfast, as other reviewers have said, is toast, with tons of toppings, and coffee. The beds are really nice and the a/c is awesome. Overall, we really loved our stay here and would definitely go back.

I would ALWAYS come back! It provides everything you need, the staff is GREAT and FUN, you'll ALWAYS meet people there and If I hadn't started my trip there my whole holiday wouldn't have been as great as it was. This place is a TYPICAL HOSTEL and I can DEFINITELY recommend it to anyone! The Hostel's dog is lovely and very well trained, the hostel is clean as every hostel and the location is not too bad either. I MISS IT ALREADY! Shannon & Chris are great & you'll have a great time here!!!!

I personally don't like animals roaming around in a hostel. (animals meaning a dog) There was an awful smell at one point and I was very annoyed. Some people are animal lovers, but some like myself are not!

Lots of peeling paint, floors were picked up though in dire need of corner cleaning, bed was comfortable though very squeaky from the plywood frame, staff was friendly but hard to find...won't be staying here again!

The room we got had A/C which was great, however it had a leak making a constant noise of water drops and I think it was overpriced for a plain bedroom with just a double bed and nothing else. I don´t think it's very safe for them to provide guests with keys to the front door.

I stayed at the Palace for 10 nights on a recent trip to San Juan. Chris and Shannon were very welcoming from the moment I arrived and were extremely helpful for the duration of my trip. Very close to the beach, Old San Juan and great nightlife. What more do you need on vacation? They have the cutest dog who is really well behaved and a big fan with all of the residents! I would definitely recommend this hostel.

Far from the beach, very hard to loate, only 2 showers in the whole hostel, 3 bathrooms, and only toast for the free breakfast. It was a good price but would have rather paid more to stay in a better place.

Great place. Really cozy with nice staff. Location is a bit far from more interesting things but available by bus to Old San Juan and sites.

The peeling paint and rolled up towel stuffing a hole in the ceiling was gross. This could be a great place if it was refurbished. I enjoyed talking to the people staying.

While the facility was okay, the hostel itself was in a pretty rough part of town. A 15 min walk got you down to the tourist strip of hotels and restaurants, but I would avoid wondering in the area at night. The staff were friendly enough, but this was more of a lonely party-goer's destination than a convenient overnight for the traveler on a budget. The AC worked, but the shower was cold.

It was very hard to find, but when we got there the place was awesome! It was full of charm and awesome people. It almost felt like home after being there for about 10 minutes. The accommodations were nice except there was no hot water in the upstairs shower...

I wasn't sure what I was getting myself in when I decided to book a hostel in San Juan by myself. I had the best time of my life and met the most remarkable people at this hostel. It is run by an awesome group of people who are more than welcoming. I made new friends everyday and some that I plan on connecting with in the future. I will be back to stay at the Palace Hostel! I recommend the Palace to anyone who is looking for an experience of a life time..

Great hostel! It's not the ritz but it's also not $400 a night! Great social vibe and very comfy beds. Best place on the island to meet fellow backpackers! Thanks shannon and Chris!
