We booked one night and ending up staying three nights. Unfortunately we did not have any more holidays left, otherwise we would have stayed at Walaba as long as possible!! The staff, Greta and Natalia, made us feel like at home, always happy, caring and there to help with anything. We will definitely come back to Punta Uva and to Walaba, we would recommend this place 100%.

A beautiful hostel in several floors right next to Punta Uva Beach -you can hear the waves at night! The staff was amazing and friendly and when I rented a bicycle that turned out to get a flat tire (so I had to pay to get it fixed) they returned all the money to me with an apology! I did not bring my own laptop for wifi so they let me use their own computer at the reception so I could book a hostel for my next location. Only thing is that it is quite far from Puerto Viejo but otherwise perfect!

I was supposed to stay in Walaba just for one night but I felt so great there that I stayed additional 3 nights. Greta and Natalia who work in Walaba take great care of their guests! The beach is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, much nicer than the one in Puerto Viejo - ask Natalia to show you the way through the hill! Renting bike option is great as well. I was cycling every day close to Puerto Viejo for yoga and sometimes to the town for a chocolate cake in Bread and Chocolate.

While it should be noted that the hostel is further down the coast in Punta Uva, and still a few kms from Puerto Viejo, the accommodations were great! The hostel oozes bohemian charm and the Natalia and her staff were extremely helpful getting my plans off the ground. I highly recommend renting a bike for a day to see the coast and get around. The lockers and general cleanliness about the place were much appreciated at the end of my trip. I would stay there again.

A unique little hostel, slightly out of the way, but with a beautiful secluded beach. 2 affectionate little dogs as well to add to the entertainment....

Have you seen the movie Hook by Steven Spielberg? You may find a lot of similarities to where the lost boys live! We stayed at the private house and it was by itself an experience! We felt as if we were in the middle of the jungle living an adventure. If you are looking for that, the this hostel is for you! We enjoyed our stay a lot!

Everyone who works there is very nice. Awesome people staying there, too. Woke up to howler monkies every morning, which was wonderful. Remote location. Would be great if that is what you want. I wanted more centrality to either Puerto Viejo or Manzanillo. A 24 hour bug or bacteria was going around when I was there. The water is not potable (neither is it potable from Puerto Viejo to Manzanillo), so buy a lot of bottled water and use it to brush your teeth and cook, etc. . .

Really loved this place, it was so cozy and welcoming. Felt like home a little bit. The patios and the hammocks and the open concept makes it easy to meet people. The beach nearby is nice enough, if just wild - you don't know what's going to swallow you first: the sea or the jungle. The town and shops are quite a distance. Stay here if you really want some piece, quiet & relaxation. The rental bikes are handy but maybe having 1 or 2 for free or small fee just for supermarket runs would be fair.

Super sweet and helpful staff. One of the dorms is a bit cramped but the beds are comfy and the other inhabitants friendly and considerate. Felt at home very quickly. Nice communal areas make socialising and meeting people easy if that's what you want to do. Easy access to a great beach and a good restaurant 2 mins walk away but apart from that there's not a great selection of places to eat / drink nearby.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at Walaba in the beginning of our trip to Costa Rica, we loved it! We came with the white water rafting trip the hostel recommended - it was awesome!! Perfect transportation method. Punta Uva Beach is far from Puerto Viejo, about 7 km or 1,5 hours walk along the beach -for us, it was a good thing. Punta Uva is much less touristic than Puerto Viejo, and much more beautiful! The Walaba Hostel is authentic, with a hippie atmosphere in the middle of the djungle! Best place

This place is a paradise. I could stay there for weeks. The staff is extremely helpful and welcoming. It is just a joy to converse with them. I really doubt you could find a better place to stay in Punta Uva/Puerto Viejo. I highly recommend it. If I have an opportunity to, I would visit it again!
