Las Orquideas is one of the safest neighborhood in Quito. You can enjoy a small town environment while being in the middle of Quito, and walk around at night without fear. You are 15 minutes from the heart of the old city by bus, which costs only 25 cents.
Besides being in a wonderful neighborhood, Elena is incredibly nice, and her house has all the comforts of home: bathroom, stereo, computer, microwave, and, of course, a blender so that you can enjoy all of the homemade fruit juices that she makes (mango, guayaba, papaya, pineapple juice). Not to mention that Elena is an excellent and healthy cook. Honestly, it's an ideal place to stay while you get to know Quito; it's much better than a hotel!
