Lyric Symphony

If you appreciate classical music with emotional depth, this concert offers a rare chance to hear Zemlinsky’s Lyric Symphony performed live for the first time in Iceland. Baritone Ólafur Kjartan Sigurðarson and soprano Bryndís Guðjónsdóttir bring this late-Romantic piece to life, rich with themes of regret and longing, influenced by Mahler. Alongside it, you’ll experience Schubert’s Symphony No. 8, the "Unfinished," conducted by Ingo Metzmacher in his debut with the orchestra. The combination of these works creates a thoughtful and stirring evening. The program’s blend of voices and orchestral textures invites you to engage with music that balances intensity and subtlety. Whether you’re familiar with these composers or discovering them anew, the performance offers moments that linger beyond the concert hall. It’s a setting where the emotional currents of the music can resonate quietly with you and others, making it a memorable occasion for anyone drawn to expressive, nuanced symphony.
