The capital of its namesake, Luxembourg City might be petite but there's a lot to keep you entertained. A short walk through the charming streets will show you why this surprisingly multicultural city has earned a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage list. There’s a high number of stunning architectural spots to tick off, from the Adolphe Bridge to Vianden Castle. Plus, when you’ve admired the medieval relics, you can explore the valleys and banks by the Alzette and Pétrusse rivers that surround the city.

Looking for a Luxembourg City hostel? Staying in a place that offers full board – that's your morning and evening meal, as well as a packed lunch – helps get the best out of your budget. There are hostels with working spaces too. Look out for hostels in Luxembourg City that offer free breakfast, setting you up for a day walking the city's quaint streets. Free Wi-Fi helps you stay in touch with back home, while extras like barbecues are a fun way to unwind in the sunshine with your fellow travellers.

In the historic centre, you'll find Luxembourg City's Ville Haute neighbourhood. It's a sweet spot to explore on foot, so you can easily see the main sights, like Place Guillaume II. Make like a local in Clausen, an upmarket residential neighbourhood, or head into Grund to get a taste of the city's nightlife. On the outskirts, you'll find Pffafenthal. Sitting on the banks of the two rivers, it's an atmospheric setting for a walk.

Get to know Luxembourg City at the Palais Grand-Ducal, the original home of the Grand Duke, and take a moment to appreciate the gothic architecture. The National Museum of History and Art is a relaxing place to spend an afternoon and soak up some culture. When the sun shines, head over to Parc Merveilleux and people-watch on the grass. Alternatively, seek out the arcades to mingle with gaming locals, or hop on the train that runs around the grounds. For impressive views, head to the Walls of the Corniche and look down on the valley.

Getting from Luxembourg City Airport to the city centre is easy. Catch the number 16 Eurobus – departing every 15 minutes – to the central train station. The journey takes around 30 minutes. From the central station, you can catch intercity trains. As the city is so small, you can comfortably explore on foot, but there are bus routes too if you need a break.
