Asylum Sydney is a rare hostel aiming to provide a peaceful, respectful and healthy environment to help keep that apocalypse-bug away! We love people, but also value a good night's rest. Enjoy city/harbour bridge views, ample space, hot/cold air-conditioning, reading lights and bedside curtains in selected dorms, and free unlimited WiFi, fridges, lockers, bedside power outlets and a maximum of 6 beds in all dorms! Come and hang out with your fellow 'inmates' at our vegan night, social bbq, pancake morning and meditation sessions!

Just walk 20 minutes for the best views of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour! We are located in the real Sydney, the famous Kings Cross neighbourhood, NOT the stressful, noisy CBD where people fight over toilet paper! Kings Cross station is a 1 minute walk away as are the nearest bars, pubs and supermarkets. Despite this we are in a nice little corner of the street away from all the noise!

Rooms and Dorms

Make yourself at home in one of our mixed or female-only dorms. Selected beds have an ensuite, stunning views of the Sydney skyline as well as reading lights and curtains to minimise disturbances to yourself and other guests. All dorms have their own fridge and all beds include linen, have their own locker and bedside power outlets.

To assist with social distancing procedures, we will be keeping the amount of guests in rooms under 3 wherever possible. We are a non-party hostel aiming to provide a healthy, peaceful and respectful environment through sessions involving meditation and vegan eats to give you the best chance of beating this apocalypse we're in! Alcohol storage is permitted, but consumption of alcohol is not allowed in dorms and common/shared areas. Please note that the capacity limit may force us to separate groups or couples.

All guests have free unlimited access to broadband WiFi and unlimited toilet paper! Towels are available for hire, and locks and power adapters are available for purchase from reception. The hostel is small enough that everyone gets to know each other. You’ll start meeting people once you check-in, so newbies need not be afraid of not fitting in somewhere! View House Rules

I can honestly say that this is one of the best hostels I have stayed at. Travellers have different wants and needs in their ongoing travelling experiences and what I embrace is a safe space with deep conversations and the ability to be at peace with myself and with others around me. Asylum Sydney Backpackers offered this for me and I am sure many others to who have been humbled to stay here. I give credit to the management and staff and will always use this as my home when I stay in Sydney.

Great hostel, the dogs and cats are wonderful to hang out with! The hostel has chill vibes and it’s easy to meet other backpackers because of the chill family vibes. They have free vegan food sometimes and it’s very eco-friendly, they recycle a lot here and everyone is conscious about that The dorms are great, adding curtains on the bunk is great and they spaced us out so that it’s more than 1.5 metres Free breakfast is a bonus as well

I can not rave enough about Asylum and their staff. They were always kind, helpful, and all around awesome and made sure I had answers to any questions I had. When the virus started getting worse and the government started imposing restrictions, the staff was there for me to make sure I had a room, away from others if needed, and I did not feel awkward about asking or receiving the space from the staff. I would definitely stay here again when I next visit Sydney (which I hope is soon).

I had a great time at the Asylum Hostel. Felt like being with a small international family for a couple of days. if you like Meditation, just go for it ! I also really did appreciate the staff effort concerning the cleanliness and respect of social distance in the rooms concerning the virus.

It’s very conveniently located next to the train station, so you don’t have to travel too far with heavy bags. The people are very welcoming and friendly and do their best to maintain the space. It’s decently clean, compared to other hostels in the vicinity, and very affordable, would def stay there again for future trips.

    Very Good

    18 Jul 2020
Me and my boyfriend booked this room for a few nights during a stopover. We were put in a dorm without anyone else, so we basically had a private room to ourselves, and it had a sink, tv and mini fridge. There is a common area with a tv that plays netflix and youtube, as well as an outdoor seating patio area. The kitchen is ok, very small and cramped and couldn't imagine what it would be like when the hostel is full. You have to wash your dished before eating, which is annoying.

At first asylum seemed like a nice place, from the reviews it seemed a very pleasant hostel. That was far from the truth. Nice and secure rooms but with Cockroaches everywhere, which is understandable in a hostel sometimes so that doesn’t matter. The worst part of asylum is the staff, the worst part of my experience. With no respect, manners and a stinking attitude all the time they definitely should not work in hospitality! Without them it wasn’t too bad! Good vibes 👌
