Property Description

Don't be confused, everything but the name is the same! Formerly known as Oasis Downtown Hostel, we are one of the few youth hostels actually in downtown Puerto Vallarta. We like to see ourselves as a refuge for travelers; a safe, fun, and memorable place where life-long friendships develop. Be greeted (with an ice cold beer!) by our friendly and helpful staff who also enjoy a good party! If you are looking for a good time here in Puerto Vallarta, whether it be relaxing at the beach, eating like a local, or partying the night away, we can show you how!

Casa Kraken is located in between the church of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the main square (adjacent to the city hall). We are also a block away from the main area of the Malecón: the seahorse statue and the outdoor amphitheater (right next to Los Arcos).

In total we have four dorms: we have an eight bed female dorm, two ten bed mixed dorms and a four bed mixed dorm. They all come with oscolating floor fans and ceiling fans. There are also assigned lockers (with a padlock) inside the dorms for each guest. Staff members organize bar crawls, day trips to the beach, various hikes, and Spanish lessons; feel free to ask for any events! We have a beautiful ocean and city view from our rooftop terrace that is not to be missed.

I had an awesome time here! The volunteers and staff here are some of the most genuine and friendly people that I have met on my travels. Together we had a great time scuba diving, salsa dancing in the square and at the bars, going out to eat, etc. They had great tips on places to check out south of Boca de Tomatlan and they also got me a great rate for a trip to the Marietas Islands. I highly recommend this place and will be coming back soon!

I loved it here so much I ended up extending my stay for almost the full two weeks! Besides a great location it has a really chill atmosphere. Lots of places to hang out and make friends, or spend some alone time if you need it. Staff is so genuinely wonderful and often makes a homemade breakfast for everyone! The staff are super knowledgeable about the area and can always give suggestions on where to go, what to do, and where to eat! Facilities are clean, beds are comfy!

Incredibly kind staff with great recommendations. Central location and very cool common spaces. Big kitchen and spacious showers. But--bring earplugs!! The hostel is next to a historic Catholic Church that rings its bells through out the night. Stayed in the co-ed dorms and felt very safe.

Very good location, center of old town, one block from beach/bay. Rooms, beds, and wifi are fine. Patio on second floor and open terrace on third floor, great views. Free breakfast, often with tasty additions by staff. Owner Adela makes one feel at home. William Beyers USA

Location terrific except for constant loud traffic noise!!! Female dorm room a bit stuffy and only half filled. Pleasant folks.

This hostel is extremely well-located close to the beach and the historic zone. The owner was always smiling and sometimes makes tasty eggs for breakfast. Overall the hostel is kept clean and is good value for Puerto Vallarta which tends to be dominated by pricy hotels and resorts. My only complaint is the upper dorm beds need plugs or at least extension chords to connect your phone while asleep and climbing down from them can be a bit treacherous. Try and get a lower bunk if possible.

Excellent (if not perfect) location and extraordinarly clean and tidy. Doubtlessly the best bet in town at this moment. The hostel layout was also pleasing as was the breakfast which added to the value. 3 out of 4 staff were great, however the fourth has a repulsive attitude that should warrant discharge. I moved hostels as a consequence. Sometimes volunteer staff forget their place...

We appreciated the kindness of some of the staff..however the one male staff worker was rude beyond anything we have ever experienced. Obnoxious and overly sarcastic, he could to try to understand individual persons situations before acting very rude and very judgemental. Too loud and obnoxious. He read the rules to us like some military drill sergeant..I think he has a prejudice towards people who are too different than he is. Uncivilized! the kitchen is practical. The room is spacious....
