Property Description

¡Hola!
We are looking forward to meeting you soon at Cascada Verde Hostel in Uvita, Costa Rica.
We, a German family from Berlin, realized our dream to live in the jungle and are happy to share our home with you!
We take care for a warm and relaxed atmosphere, plenty of comfy furniture is provided to get some rest while travelling.
You can spot plenty of Costa Rican wildlife right from one of our terraces and enjoy our stunning jungle (+ a bit of ocean) view!

- Our reception is open from 7am to 9pm.
- We accept cash and credit card/PayPal payments but have to charge 5% for credit card payments & 6% for PayPal payments..
You can pay in both currencies: Costa Rican Colones ₡ or US $.
- We have a big and fully equipped kitchen for everyone's use at our hostel
and we serve a delicious breakfast between 7 and 11am for $7 per person.
Basics like coffee, tea, salt, pepper, sugar, soy oil are also provided.
(Cooking is possible between 6am and 9pm.)

We recommend buying your groceries as soon as you arrive in central Uvita
because there is no proper supermarket closer than the SP Supermarket downtown.
Of course there are good restaurants nearby but you'll have to walk at least a few minutes to get there.

- Our hostel building is pretty open: Ceilings are not closed and everything is made out of wood.
Which gives it a very special atmosphere and that's why most guests love it here
but please keep in mind that privacy is - let's say: limited.
- Because of the conditions of the building we can not accept kids younger than at least 6 years old (depending a bit on each child).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What to bring:
- It gets dark up here - please bring a flashlight!
- Between April and mid December it's good to have an umbrella.
- If you want, bring your own mosquito net.
(Luckily we don't have many mosquitos...)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please keep in mind:
As you hopefully know we are located in the jungle
and yes, there are bugs up here! Not many but some.
It can happen that you see a snake or a scorpion.
It does not happen very often, because they don't like people,
but it is a possibility... So far nobody got hurt ;-)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

About whale-watching-tours here in Uvita:
Please check the whale season months if you only come to see whales!
As far as we know whales are here from mid July to mid October,
hopefully coming back end of December and stay until February.
Naturally, things can change so please contact us or a tour operator in Uvita
before you book your accomodation!
By the way: Dolphins are usually around all year round
and the snorkeling is good fun anyway!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A general tip for Costa Rica:
Bring a copy of your passport!
There are often police controls and they might want to see your passport -
but if you go to the beach, you better bring nothing more than a towel and swimming gear -
there is many small thievery Costa Rica, especially at the beach.
That's why it's better only to bring a copy of your passport when you go out...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Travelling by bus:
Direct buses from San José run regularly between 6am and 7:30pm.
The ride takes 3,5 to 4 hrs if you take a bis along the coast.
TRACOPA is the name of company and terminal.

- Arriving in Uvita from San José with TRACOPA (light green and pink buses),
you'll get off the bus at a proper bus terminal across the street from the SP supermarket.
Please turn left (going north) and follow the big road just a few meters until you get to a junction
with the BCR bank next to a SP supermarket to your right.
If you prefer to walk, turn right and go up the road at the BCR bank -
just follow the signs to the waterfall and watch out for our signs!
It's a 20 minutes walk and it's pretty exhausting (uphill) but it's doable...
Just a few meters before the waterfall you'll have to turn left again.
You can also take a taxi - they usually wait outside of the BCR bank right at the corner.
It's 4$ for a ride to our hostel, that's 2.000 Colones.

- Coming from the NORTH (Jacó, San Isidro, Quepos, Dominical...) by local bus:
Please get off at the bus stop at the black bus stop (with EL TECAL sign) in central Uvita.
Across the street you'll see the BCR bank and the SP supermarket next to it.
If you want to walk, go up that road at the BCR bank, follow the signs to the waterfall and watch out for our signs!

LOVED this place! Set back away from the town but we liked that. The hostel is very well set up, kitchen is fantastic and staff are amazing. I enjoyed yoga in the mornings on the top deck overlooking the pond. Waterfall just a 5 min walk away. Would highly recommend to all that don’t want a party hostel. A*

Couldn't have wished for more! Located up in the mountains of Uvita, the hostel's wooden structure fits perfectly into the natural setting. Although it's built openly, staff keeps every part of the hostel very clean at all times. You can approach them with any questions you have and they will always try to do their best to help you, no matter if it's the owners, volunteers or regular staff. Tour offers and infomaterial are top notch as well. Wouldn't hesitate one second to book again!

I was originally scheduled to just stay for 2 nights that turned into 6. I took a point off for location because it's a ways out from town. I had a car and actually preferred that it was off the beaten path and quiet. Every time I went to extend my stay they were very accommodating especially the last night when due to some super unlucky timing on my part the bed I was in got booked but they offered me to stay in one of the private rooms. All in all an amazing experience. I would live there!

This is such a great hostel to stay at. The staff are very nice and they keep the hostel very clean. I enjoyed my time staying here and I would recommend it to many of my friends and family. Yes, the location is a little far from the beach but the atmosphere of this hostel makes up for it. You are literally in the middle of the jungle right next to a beautiful waterfall.

Really cool place, the walk up from town is a bit of a hike, but nice that you are away from any noise, staff was super helpful on info and tour planning, loved the chill "tree house vibe" and the breakfast was great, would recommend!

Lovely hostel near the waterfall, amazing jungle and sea view from their big, open terrace. I really loved staying there, the private rooms are very nice. They did their best to keep everything very clean, but it also depends on the travelers and how they treat the facilities - Never flush toilet paper in Costa Rica! They offer a nice breakfast for 7$. The city center of Uvita is a 20 minute walk from the hostel, but we just loved the area and the jungle around the hostel, it was worth the walk!

Beautiful hostel. Would be awesome if they had a daily shuttle to and from the town - the walk isn’t long but it’s hot.

I can’t say anything bad about a place that internet speed tests to 60mbs at night time. The top deck area with the hammocks, view and chairs is really awesome. The only thing that would really be awesome is a shuttle or atv/bicycle rental to go into town and get groceries.

    Fabulous

    11 Feb 2020
The location and environment were very nice. Great kitchen except it seemed to always be busy so we ate out more than we planned to. Our room didn't have a fan so it was really hot at night so sleeping was a challenge (obviously no air conditioning either). The hostel was great but we wouldn't stay again due to the hotness of our room with no fan.

    Very Good

The setting of Cascada Verde is incredibly beautiful and peaceful. The atmosphere is very chill and comfortable. It's like being in a treehouse almost, with so much beautiful nature around. The owners were a bit grouchy but the other staff was kind and helpful. The accommodations are simple but clean and comfortable. Upstairs rooms are quite noisy when people walk around. We enjoyed it and would probably return.
