Property Description

The Chelsea International Hostel is one of the largest independent Hostels in New York City, operating since 1992. We are located in Chelsea, a prime location in the heart of Manhattan. From here our guests can walk to most of the attractions NYC has to offer. Highline Park is only 2 blocks away. Follow the lights and arrive in Times Square after a 15-minute walk. But if you prefer to ride the subway, feel free to hop on any of the many subway lines that serve us (A, C, E, F, 1, 2, 3). You can get virtually anywhere in the city in just a few minutes.

Our simple, functional rooms can sleep one to four guests in single beds (in single, shared and private twin rooms) or double-size beds (in private double-bed rooms). We do not use bunk beds in our rooms. Every room is air-conditioned during the summer months. Most rooms will share bathrooms down the hall and the bathrooms are cleaned constantly. Every floor in any of our eight buildings has a bathroom; most of the times there is no waiting in line to use the bathrooms.

Our guests love to gather in the outdoor courtyard, such a rare space in an urban area like NYC. Two kitchens, a dining room and a lounge complement our common areas. They are open from 7 am to 11 pm, in consideration to our good neighbors.

Our guests also enjoy:

FREE WI-FI throughout the entire property. Desktop computers and printer are also available in the lounge for a fee.

FREE continental breakfast, served from 8 am to 10 am. You will be welcome to enjoy a variety of bagels, cereal, fresh fruits, coffee, milk and tea.

FREE pizza on Wednesday evenings. Our “All You Can Eat” pizza event has been our tradition since our opening.

Lockers in the room for your valuables. You need to provide your own padlock (medium-size, thick).

Linen and towels (one bath towel per guest) are provided.

Luggage storage is available for an additional fee ($4 - $5).

Check in starts at 3PM.

Check out is no later than 12 PM NOON.

Please note our following policies:

Valid passport is required to check in. This policy is also valid for American and Canadian citizens. NO EXCEPTIONS.

All guests must be 18 years old or older to stay with us.

Hotel taxes are not included in the rates. NYS, NYC Sales Tax: 14.75%. Occupancy taxes: $3.50 per person per night. These will be added to your balance.

Maximum stay in our hostel is 14 nights in any given 30 days. We will not accept consecutive reservations that add up to more than 14 nights.

Payment is due full upon arrival. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Traveler Checks or Cash.

A $10 deposit (cash only) per person is required at check-in and is refundable upon return of keys on time.

Pets are not allowed.

Beds and rooms are allocated on the arrival day. We will do our best to accommodate you, but we cannot guarantee that a group of 2 or more people will be in the same room.

We have a 24hr cancellation policy. Late cancellations, late changes and no-shows shall be charged the equivalent of the first night's accommodation.

Packages: As a courtesy, we will accept packages for guests that are currently checked in to our system. We cannot accept packages before a guest checks in or after a guest checks out. The name on the package must match the name on the reservation. If the name on the package does not match our system or if the package does not have a name, it will not be accepted. Please note that due to space restrictions, we cannot accept large volumes or oversized packages. View House Rules

Located in central Manhattan, the Chelsea International Hostel is a great place to rest your head after taking a bite out of the Big Apple. We'll make sure you're well fed with a free breakfast every morning and our famous all-you-can-eat pizza night. In hot summer months, the air con will keep you cool and you'll be able to get to know other guests in our communal courtyard – a rare bonus here in NYC! It’s open from 7am and closes again at 11pm to make sure everyone gets a good night’s sleep.

You'll find us in one of New York's most vibrant and trendy neighbourhoods, just two blocks from High Line Park and a 15-minute stroll from Times Square. Chelsea is packed with speakeasy bars, Instagram-ready restaurants and hot spots like the Gansevoort Market and Gotham Comedy Club. We're served by lots of subway lines too (A, C, E, F, 1, 2, 3), so it's easy to get around when you're looking to spend a day further afield.

Rooms and Dorms

Our functional dorm rooms come with all the essentials and they sleep up to four people. There are bathrooms on every floor and some of the private rooms have en-suites. And don't worry about climbing onto the top bunk in the middle of the night: all our beds are standard singles or doubles, so everyone gets prime position.

Extras and activities

If your data's limited, grab one of our free city maps so you stay on track when you're out and about. Back in the hostel, whip up a snack in our kitchen. Great, secure and safe location right in Chelsea, near midtown. I staued in a 4 beddorm with ensuite bathroom and it was perfect, very clean. Rooms are equipped with great AC and large lockers for valuables. Absolutely no atmosphere as it was super quiet and the crowd was not social while I was there (mid August)

The hostel has a good location: safe and easy to reach the main sights on foot or by metro. It is a really great place to meet people easily from all around the world especially if you travel alone. The rooms are simple but clean and comforable. The only minus point is the breakfast because of the lack of environmental friendliness. They serve everything in disposable paper plates&cups and with disposable plastic cutlery.

Cleaning ladies were so kind and helpful. Building could use some new lighting and door jams (doors have to be slammed shut, which can be alarming at early hours) Otherwise, 9 out of ten in my books.

The room itself was very nice, small but cute and quaint. The staff were very friendly and checked me in and out very fast. My only complaint was that the water wouldn’t get warm, so I couldn’t shower...

It was a nice hostel next to many subways right next to the City, 7 min to Grand Central. I didn’t like that hostel was right next to all of the above ground trains and major roads with lots of grid lock traffic and horns. You can hear the rumble of trains and screeching of breaks all day and night long, and for some reason loud motorcycles without mufflers. Thanks that I had earplugs and eye mask which helped, though could still hear the noise. Windows are old and not double paned.

Great location : nearby Subway station, can safely walk to the time square and other wonderful trip destinations around middle manhattan zone. Shared room is clean but simply with towel and blanket provided. Bathroom is separated from bedroom and shared with other guess (3 rooms nearby in the same level)

I really did not like the facility. We expected cleaner spaces for the amount money we payed. The location was perfect, nicely placed in chelsea, close to beautiful neighbourhoods and midtown. The showers were awful, me and my friend did not even feel like taking a shower from the looks of it. There was also some bucket hanging from the sealing which was odd.

Beds were terrible, springy messes. Common area was garbage and hot. Might as well not provided breakfast because it was a sad bagel and banana and ended at 10am which is too early. Wifi network and password provided didn't even work. Shower had no ledge to put soap or hygiene products. Was greeted by staff that was standoffish and not inviting at all. I've been in other hostels that were way better. This place really lacked.

Everything is very old and dirty, the old guy at reception was a complete j***. They charge for storing luggage (Seriously, which hostel does that?!). The rooms are small, loud, extremely basic, it felt like a prison. Breakfast is handed out in small portions through a window like in prison, which does not seem very fair considering the price. There are no sinks to wash hands anywhere in or near the toilet. The tables and benches outdoor seem so old like they a from a junkyard. Don‘t stay there.
