The Area
Tonsai and neighbouring Railay beach is famous for its rock climbing which has become increasingly popular in recent years and it is not hard to see why with the towering limestone cliffs. .
If rock climbing is not your thing then there are still many things to see and do. Diving and snorkeling are very popular in the area and we are also a gate way to many islands, the closest being only half an hour away. If you prefer to stay closer to home then you can explore neighboring Railay bay with its hidden beaches and lagoons. If you prefer just to relax, then both beaches offer relief from the outside world.

I loved this place. It really was a chill out space. Close to Railay beach by a 10 minute hike and just a boat away from Ao Nang. The staff were so kind and it felt like a family. They offered amazing rock climbing through Max who was superb and Laura, a staff member, made me feel right at home telling me tips and tricks for my travels. The food was amazing and cheap too. Would 100% recommend and want to come back

Loved my whole stay in Tonsai and chill out was a good base. It's cheaper to book a room when you arrive (300 per night 3 bed bungalow). Rooms do vary a lot but I had a nice bungalow and terrace with 3 single beds and an ensuite. Cold shower welcomed as it gets very hot! Tonsai is wonderful for climbing and the climbing community is so welcoming. Plenty of options for breakfast and food around. Booked 3 nights and stayed 4 more!

Lovely, lovely, lovely place! But maybe not for everyone. Restrictions of elektricity and wifi was a challenge for my travellingpartner, but I quite enjoyed it. Great people working here, good vibes! If you want something more off the beaten path, go here!

We stayed at the chill out bungalows for a jungle experience and we certainly got that ! We found a snake in the bathroom on arrival, didn’t expect anything less in the jungle if I’m honest. However on closer research the other bungalows were far better value for money and one of them had a pool. This is a quite a close nit community of rock climbers and found it very hard to socialize with the other backpackers. It was a massive experience as it’s like a whole community living in the jungle

I really enjoyed my stay in the Tonsai area. Much more chilled out than Railay. Much like chillout bar and bungalows. If you don't need room service and resort like settings this is a nice place to stay.

Loved the hippie atmosphere of Tonsai Beach! They’re making the most out of the wall between the village and the beach! We had a medical emergency during our stay. There is no clinic in Tonsai - next clinic is in Railay Beach. Unfortunately the staff did not help at all. Luckily a doctor was also staying at the hostel and helped us together with the staff of the family restaurant next door.

We had a nice stay there in a private bungalow with bathroom. The room was clean, though sheets and towels looked worn out. Location is amazing for active people or people who want to meet with other travelers, bar seemed lively during evenings, luckily not long into night. When we paid deposit for room keys, we paid for two, got only one. Leter when collecting it, the amout paid was whitened in the sheet and we got money for one. This felt strange, otherwise it was great.

Wouldn't book here. Tonsai beach is deserted. Me and my group had to book another hotel on railay beach. Before covid it might have been a nice spot but now everyone stays in railay. There's no up to date photos online of what the hostel and surrounding area looks like. The owner is nice and its quite unfortunate that the area hasn't picked back up but for the moment I would recommend people staying on railay side.

Tonsai beach is not a happening place after pandemic. The place has to electricity but only for few hrs. Stay at railey beach or tinidee.
