I had an amazing stay. The hostel staff were super friendly and the location was just mind blowing- the view of the bay from the hostel at all times was nothing like what I could have ever imagined before. The cafeteria food was pretty good too! I would definitely recommend.

I have stayed in 4 hostel to-date. This was the best so far. It has the best view, Golden Gate and Alcatraz. It has hot water dispenser, a cafe - good latte and at a low price. It has a good size kitchen, living room, bathroom just for 8 person use ( 2 dorms, each with 4 bunker beds ). I even like the mattress. The only thing I dislike is that dorm-mates ate snacks inside the sleeping dorm, instead of adhering to the rules.

Where do I even begin. My stay at the HI in fort mason was by far one of my best experiences at a hostel yet. The location was just out of this world. Everything I needed was at walking distance! The best part of my stay had to be the staff. Eryn was the absolute best. She truly made my check in and out process a breeze and for that I am so grateful. We had a very pleasant conversation about the city and many event going on that weekend. I truly appreciate her and the rest of the staff.Thank you!

It was a little noisy because we stayed in bunks 1 and 2 just off the main lobby, I would wake up anytime walked in or out and let the door slam behind them. Music from the lobby played until it was finally turned off sometime in the early hours of the morning. Otherwise this was a nice clean place to stay, close to everything a visitor would want to see at an unbeatable price. There is laundry, a cafe, a theater, wifi - I would stay in adjacent building next time to make my stay perfect.

Great hostel in a scenic location. If you are looking for a party hostel, look elsewhere. But if you are looking for something a bit quieter, this hostel cannot be beat. It's right on the water and my room had a view of Alcatrez! The staff at the front desk were super friendly and helpful, even if there were sometimes queues (I was there on the weekend). The common room was very inviting and the kitchen clean and well equiped. The free breakfast was an added perk and also quite good.

Great location. Female toilet shower in our area out of order so long walk to alternative. Fairly noisy with two large groups of school children staying.

    Very Good

Beautiful views of Golden Gate Bridge and harbor. Bc of the location be prepared to do a LOT of walking, mostly uphill. Beds were comfy, but bathrooms were very gross (sometimes can’t be helped with guests being slobs). Female bathroom under construction on one side so you had to walk to the other side of hostel. Got very crowded quickly. Breakfast is decent and staff try to help when they can. If you want a social scene, this isn’t the hostel for you. Nothing going on, even on St. Patty’s Day.

    Very Good

The hostel stands on the top of a hill overlooking Alcatraz and the bay. The view is pretty and in addition to that there is a lot of green in the immediate surroundings. The hostel is big, but my 12 beds-room was not. There are also few bathrooms, if you consider he amount of guests The staff was helpful enough. The atmosphere was rather pallid, what often happens in large hostels, where people tend to remain inside their group. The hostel is a bit far away from downtown and China Town.
