Overview

Roll out of bed for a free breakfast of muffins, fruit and bagels at HI Vancouver Downtown. There's also free coffee, tea and purified water! Take your caffeine hit out to our rooftop terrace and grab a table with a parasol or spread out on a sun bed. Or join one of our tours to Stanley Park or Lynn Valley. On cloudy days, take an armchair seat in our library (it's lined with bookshelves full of great reads). We also have a TV room with cable, where you can catch up on your favourite shows in our cinema-style seats.

Location

We're located in the peaceful West End residential neighbourhood which is an easy walk from the sights. One block away you'll find Davie St – a great place for hanging out in cafés or clubbing. Walk 10 minutes and you'll reach Sunset Beach or False Creek Ferries for a trip to Granville Island (pick up seafood at the public market to bring back for dinner). To get here from Vancouver International Airport, take the Canada Line train to the Yaletown-Roundhouse stop. Hop on the 6 Davie bus (Westbound) to Thurlow St and we're a 2-minute walk from there. It should take around 40 minutes in total.

Rooms and Dorms

As well as private rooms, we have mixed and single-sex dorms. All our rooms have sinks and your bunk comes with free linen and towels. We're also wheelchair-friendly. Store your stuff in a security locker – that, and the secure key-card access, should keep it all safe!

Extras and activities

Make a packed lunch in our huge kitchen before heading off for a spot of window shopping at CF Pacific Centre mall. If you're staying in one night, you can use our free Wi-Fi to post some pics of pool competitions in our games room. Lost that last round? Step up to the foosball table to show who's boss. And if that wasn't successful either, pop by our 24-hour reception to get tips for late-opening bars nearby.

I had a very pleasant stay at HI Vancouver Downtown! The first day I arrived I joined the club night, visiting two bars and one club which was fun and we got free shots in bars. The beds are cozy and there wasn’t any noise during the night. Staff was very friendly and always friendly and helpful when I had questions. The location is just perfect, it’s a short distance to the beach and also Downtown or Standley park are in a good walking distance. Also I liked the (included!) breakfast a lot!

Great location, can walk most places in the city centre and close to good bus and rail routes. Rooms are small and can get pretty stuffy, but the beds are very comfortable and not squeaky! Nice kitchen and eating area, and the small communal rooms and outdoor decks are a really nice addition - actually enables space for phone calls etc. Staff were overall helpful. If you have the time and don't mind an uphill hike, would definitely recommend the Grouse Grind trail whilst you're in Vancouver!

The rooms are small with NO ventilation and with people often hiking the scent is rancid. Otherwise nice place. Hopefully your roommates dont smell

    Fabulous

On the whole, it was a great place to stay, other than having to share a room with strangers and a bathroom with many people. One of our roommates came in drunk during the night and vomited in the floor. There were lockers but you have to buy a lock for them. The continental breakfast was very good. The staff were very nice and helpful. The price seems a bit high for a shared room, but nothing is cheap in Vancouver. The location is good. On the whole, I was pleased with my stay.

Close to the beach and close to downtown. Good facilities and great staff. I did quite enjoy my stay but I did get bed bugs when staying here which really wasn’t fun... we were moved rooms immediately, I was refunded for the night, the staff got an inspector in and paid to wash all my and my sisters clothes. The pharmacist said that bed bugs are super common in Vancouver so make sure you check your beds (pull back the sheets and check the mattress) wherever you chose to stay.

Location great and there was a roof top terrace. There were several flies in our room when we arrived which we got rid of quite swiftly, but I guess the window was open to keep air fresh before our arrival. The showers/ toilets were really clean though. The hostel puts events/tours on but we didn't use these. Atmosphere was ok. Breakfast range is ok but they started clearing up before the end time. Price for room was expensive. Was last minute but would expect a hotel not hostel for the price.
