Hostelworld says

Santa Monaca is one of the oldest and historical hostel in Florence. What make Santa Monaca recommendable is the amazing staff that run the place, the great central location in the traditional Santo Spirito quarter. For real backpackers who enjoy simplicity and history combined together this is the perfect place. Built in a Church frame this was an ex convent, you may be lucky and attend at one of the music event run in the annexed ex-church. Also what make this place special are Ida and Giuliano who are always trying to help every customer making you feel at home.

Very friendly hostel with excellent staff and clean rooms. Great location for the city centre although, with luggage, it’s a good 20 minute walk to the main station. Overall excellent value with opera arias thrown in nightly at the adjacent church. The concert I attended there was one of the highlights of my trip to Florence!

    Fabulous

Was in the other side of the river from the Duomo so if you want that great. Hostel seemed nice enough was an old monestary converted. So, there are stairs going left and right getting from your room. Rooms big enough with a locker and had a/c machine in the room. Shower area was cleaner however getting from the shower from your room the floors could have been kept cleaner in my opinion. Kitchen area was ok had all the basics you might need. dont let the floor neg stop you from staying.

Very central spot and fairly secure! Better than the pictures looked. Bring mosquito spray! Showers were fine but quite open. Kitchen seemed good for a short stay but didn’t use, the terrace was nice but too small to socialise and the other communal area was quiet. Beds were decent with secure lockers.

Was fine - great location but wasn’t really any social atmosphere and the layout was a bit confusing at first. Only negative was not much atmosphere but staff was really nice and made everything easy

Perfect location for exploring Florence and a decent hostel overall. The layout is kind of strange (lots of stairs) because it's a historical building but I didn't have a problem with it. Kitchen and common space were big and pretty functional. Bathroom had a weird sewer gas smell which was quite unpleasant and the 10 bed female room was very cramped to the point where some of the luggage lockers were inaccessible. Despite that, I'd stay here again bc the positives outweigh the negatives!

The place was really loud at night due to the concert hall above the rooms, but i was really into it as the music was beautiful, there wasnt really anything going on as far as cool common areas but there was alot going on outside that made it not a problem.

The property was lovely and suited our needs the common area is large but not lively and the kitchen is well equipped. The bathrooms were large and not very clean but this is to be expected. The staff were incredibly helpful.

An okay hostel not far from the city center. It is quite big so you will find there big bathrooms, a big kitchen and a dining room, but overall it isn’t cosy. It looks more like an old school’s dormitory than a hostel. It doesn’t have the cosy hostel elements you appreciate elsewhere. But it has all that it necessary, it just doesn’t try to be more than that. It is a just fine place to stay in Florence but it doesn’t make you feel the warmth other hostels do.
