Hostel Uppelink is a hidden historic gem in Ghent’s city centre. The 13th-century building is a sight in itself (destined for Instagram). Plus, our prime position next to the medieval harbour means you get amazing views over the Lys River from our homely common room and front-facing bedrooms. Get your bearings on our free city walking tour (in English or Spanish) or bond with fellow travellers at our board game nights and Belgium beer-tasting events.

We’re on the corner of Korenlei Quay – a handy base to explore the main sights. The city’s iconic towers, St Nicholas’ Church, the Belfry and St Bavo’s Cathedral are just a 2-minute walk away. Head to the flea market at Bij Sint-Jacobs for vintage trinkets and check out the awesome St James’ Church in the square (a 10-minute wander). Arriving from Brussels National Airport? It’s about an hour's train ride to the main railway station Gent-Sint-Pieters. Hop on a tram to Gent Korenmarkt Perron 5. We’re a 2-minute stroll from there.

Rooms and Dorms

We’ve got mixed and female-only dorms, as well as private rooms – all light and airy with shared bathrooms. We'll sort you out with free bed linen so don't worry about finding extra cash. You'll get free Wi-Fi and adaptors – so you can always stay connected. If you're travelling light, you can use our hairdryers and hire towels here too. When you head out, just lock your valuables away in your security locker.

Extras and activities

Get stuck into our buffet-style breakfast (for a small fee) before you head out – and don't forget to grab a free city map before you go. You can also hire one of our kayaks to see the sights from a new perspective. No worries if you get a little wet – we’ve got laundry facilities on-site and a bar to share funny stories over a beer! Our friendly reception staff are also happy to help with any questions.

One of the coolest hostels I’ve stayed in. Highly recommend! The location is probably the best in town and totally worth its money. Otherwise the rooms are filled with bunk beds (no curtains unfortunately) and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast is worth it’s 4€.

WOW! One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in! Peaceful atmosphere in a historic building with perhaps the best view in Gent. I sat by the common area window every evening and looked out at the city because it was so beautiful. Comfy beds, nice bathroom facilities, lovely staff too

The view from my dorm was absolutely stupendous, by far the best location of any hostel in Ghent. Beer tasting and free walking tour were also good fun. Atmosphere is generally pretty good for a chilled hostel.

Awesome central location! Ladies have to be comfortable using the same bathroom/showers as the Gents. Very clean. Beds were comfortable. Would stay again!

Location was amazing!! Couldn’t have been better. Was originally worried about showers and bathroom space but the bathroom with showers has a ton of stalls so I never had a problem getting in a shower when I wanted. Foot Lockers for valuables and plenty of under bed storage for my bag! Walking tour meetup right in front was a great bonus! Cozy lounge space and kitchen. Great place to stay!!

Very cozy and such an amazing location and view. Wasn't a fan of the separate bathrooms/showers, but not much to be done seeing as it's a historical building. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. Overall a chill hostel, most people seemed to be in groups but there's the occasional solo traveler :)

Overall a pretty solid hostel! It's literally in the heart of the old town in one of those really old historical buildings, which was really cool. The staff were helpful and generally good people. There's a nice little living room, but not too much of a vibe (it really depends on the time you go, but overall the space was there to mingle). Highly recommended!

The hostel is really cool, it has amazing views, like an easy 10/10, the bar has really good beers for a good price and the atmosphere is really chill

Perfect location, but the building was a little cold (the room and shower room). It wasn't as cozy, but still nice. Compared to the hostels I've been before, it was much more expensive and not as cozy. But if you only go there to sleep then it's good.
