This hostel is seriously amazing. The traditional Japanese house style and the cooking pit are amazing. Check in before 5 so you can sign up for the fancy style dinner. The staff here are also super friendly! I would have loved to have stayed longer!

Comfy place in Hakone. You need to let them know before 5:00 if you want to join the irori dinner at 7:00, something to consider if you're arriving late. On the other hand, shared dinner was a great way to meet other travelers and practice Japanese.

We got our own private room & had a very peaceful stay. The staff was so friendly & helpful with any questions that you may have. We did dinner one night downstairs & met some new friends. They also have an airstream camper parked outside. In the mornings Tom serves coffee, clam chowder & ham/cheese sandwiches. The open air museum is super close along with many bus stops. It has been one of my favorite places in japan so far. Thank you for an amazing stay!

Very cool hostel right near the train station and a number of bus stops. The dinner they offer for 1,000yen was a great experience! Some good suggestions for food and activities as well from the staff!

Directly next to the Hakone Open Air museum and close to a train station, however the trains are down for the next few months due to the typhoon damaged experienced there. The atmosphere was relaxing, and Hakone was well worth the visit, the only downside is the fact that you have to take buses since the trains are down and there is a slight lack of security in the dorm rooms as the lockers are so small so you have to leave out bags. Overall really nice place and atmosphere, would stay again!

Staying at Irori guesthouse felt like being in traditional Japan. The property is beautiful, and well located to exploring the rest of the Hakone area. Beds are super comfy! Sign up for their dinner and you'll definitely meet people, plus it was fun to grill your own food over the traditional irori. The coffee shop in the campervan outside is also definitely worth a visit - cozy and yummy!

Fantastic place to stay. The staff is so wonderful and welcoming. They do their best to make you feel comfortable, like providing you with towels daily. I would highly recommend participating in the Irori activity (evening dinner) as it is very affordable, considering the prices of food in Hakone. It was a great way to talk to other guests and experience a new aspect of Japanese culture. I would suggest booking it early in the day as places do run out pretty fast. Great, cosy hostel.
