I had a very good stay. The location is a 5min walk from Gaslamp Quarter Heart, that was amazing! Showers, Toilets and floors are cleaned 2-3 times every day which I really appreciated. The only thing that was missing was a small lamp above my bed. As I am a breakfast lover some little things like sliced cheese, cereals, orange juice or milk were missing for me personally. There are organized events every day (taco tuesday, bar crawl...) which is pretty cool! Would definitely come back!

The only part about this hostel which was a little dicey, was the security of my things. The "lockers" in the room that I was in were wooden boxes, and had an open back against the wall. If you just moved the entire locker box away from the wall regardless of whether or not there was a lock on the door, someone could easily gain access to your stuff. Not exactly 'secure'. In other rooms the steel lockers that they had were too small to actually fit someone's stuff. :-(

The staff I encountered were friendly and helpful. Rooms, washrooms and kitchen were clean. The only negative thing is that it was above a busy bar so that depending on the room you were in, you had to wear earplugs. However, if you like to party a lot it would be fine. Also, lots of stairs and no elevator (I have stayed in other hostels with one) which made it harder for me as I have a tear in my knee. Other than that I had a nice time here. The Thai restaurant nearby was the excellent!

We stayed in a private room w/ a queen bed that was SUPER comfy. There was a closet with hangers, 2 night stands, a TV & a mini fridge. The shared areas were kept clean and we had no issues with safety/security. We like to stay in hostels bc we aren't typically in the room much, plus the community aspect and to support the hostel community in the US where it isn't quite as popular, but is a great alternative to cheap/sketchy chain hotels. Staff was super friendly and overall a great experience!

Cool hostel in a great area of San Diego. I only stayed one night as a stop over so I didn't experience much of the atmosphere, but I noticed lots of posters for organised pub crawls, city tours, discounted zoo tickets etc. The guy at the desk who checked me in didn't show much enthusiasm and didn't tell me where anything was...including my room until I asked him. But the wonderful lady who organises breakfast was a delight! Such a nice and welcoming person :)

Mystery stains on the bed sheets. A little bit grungy but otherwise ok. Room was overly warm even though night time temps were in the upper 50's/low 60's. Couldn't get the netflix to work. Overall fine but not amazing.

Walking into my room at Lucky D's, I was met with two people. One was extremely intoxicated (at 7 PM) and the other was attempting to clean up his vomit which was all over the floor. Not the best first impression– however, reception quickly remedied the situation and placed me in another room. Was this the nicest hostel I've stayed at? No. But you get what you pay for and it's super conveniently located.

The staff was friendly and helpful at Lucky D's and the location was perfectly situated within walking distance of several sights. Unfortunately, Lucky D's is beyond dirty. Yes the toilets and sinks are cleaned frequently with fresh hand towels set out but the floors in the bathrooms have years of built up grime, and there are no knobs or door pulls to get out of the bathroom - only dead bolts. My 18yo daughter said it was too dirty and noisy for her to stay there again. I agree.
