Hostelworld says

Hostelworld guests have said MEININGER Vienna Downtown Franz has an 'atmosphere more like a hotel - very clean, calm, and secure', with the 'facilities and cleanliness of a hotel, but the social aspect of a hostel'. It's located just a short walk away from the Schottering U-bahn station which connects quickly to the city centre, and is surrounded by restaurants and cafes. We like that this hostel is pet-friendly and served an easy-on-the-budget all-you-can-eat breakfast.

Property Description

Welcome to MEININGER Hotel Vienna Downtown Franz

The MEININGER Hotel Vienna Downtown Franz is located in lively Leopoldstadt, Vienna's second district, between the Danube Canal and the Danube. Here, in the former Jewish quarter and one of the town's most popular areas, you can find ample green spaces and the Karmeliter Market with numerous stalls, cafes and restaurants that offer dishes from around the world in addition to local treats. The colourful life of the quarter has its effect on the surrounding alleys with their great number of artists' workshops, ancient perfume stores and various curiosities.

Those who wish to visit the Vienna Hofburg, the Sisi Museum, Schonbrunn Palace and the Prater, or see 'the Kiss' by Gustav Klimt, will be happy to find great public transport links. The Schottenring is right around the corner. From there you can catch the U2, the U4, trams 1, 2 and 31 and no fewer than nine bus lines.

The hotel is located in a modern, straight-edged, fair-faced concrete building. All 131 non-smoking rooms have modern furnishings kept in a clear-cut design. Each room includes a shower/toilet, a flat-screen TV and a hair dryer, and individual stylistic elements radiate Viennese charm. You sleep in single, double, multi-bed rooms or dorms. Bed linen is always included.

In the lobby, the games room and the guest kitchen you can meet other nice guests, play a round of table football, cook your own meal, use our washing machine or surf at one of our internet terminals. The room was great. Bed were clean and comfortable. Fun lobby, made it easy to meet people and hang out. The en-suite was very nice and convenient. The hostel was a bit far as you have to walk a good 10min to reach public transport. Not many restaurants, bar or coffee shop near by.

    Fabulous

My friend and I booked 2 beds in a 6-bed female dorm. Upon our arrival, we were upgraded to our own private double room with a great view for the same price. We were thrilled! The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. When it was raining, the hostel let us borrow umbrellas for the day. I was disappointed that the rooms and the front desk did not have safes (although there were lockers available). The metro is a 10 minute walk across the river in a quiet area. Would return!

I really enjoyed my stay I was only here 1 night. Being in a dorm room I was charged a euro for a towel which I thought was a bit off. At breakfast I saw a member of staff touch cheese with her hands the. Did the same to the ham platter when I highlighted that this was unhygienic I was told she was busy! When I did speak to the manage she was apologetic and completely understood my concerns. This place is great

While overall I enjoyed my stay for 7 nights, I just want to point out a few things that could've been better. 1) All the lockers except one in my room were broken. Even popping a padlock didn't stop them from being able to be twisted open. 2) My room (715) had a constant pooey smelling odour when walking thru the front door. It wasn't coming from the bathroom either. Good things about this site: 1) The internet speed is great throughout the building. 2) The staff are very helpful & friendly.

Room was clean, comfortable, and had all the necessary facilities. The only downside of staying here is the location as the closest metro is a 10 minute walk. There are also no convenience stores close by.

My only negative experience with the hostel was when I discovered that I had to make my own bed. The reason was that the cleaning staff is not allowed to make the upper beds (the beds’ design is not practical), but I had to see the stained mattress and pillow, which was disgusting, and still had to sleep there. That was not nice. Staff is great though. Location is Ok, not too far from the main attractions of the city, by walking (30 mins).

I got stolen a hoodie and jeans from my backpack bag that didn’t fit the locker. Of course I didn’t realise it until I arrived to my next destination so there was pretty much anything I could do about it. Awful for a hostel/hotel of this price and reputation. It ruined my day. So disappointed.
