Property Description

Attention: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are working with time restrictions at the reception and other hostel operations. For more information, please contact us at Thanks and Pura Vida

Built in the beginning of the last century by a Polish embassador, the house was uniquely constructed and still holds the special details and archietecture reminiscent of a European castle.

We have collective dorms that can hold 4, 6, and 12 people (bunk beds/coed) as well as a dorm room for girls (10 regular beds).
All of them with electronic lock at the door and individual lockers.

Private rooms are available for groups between 2-6 people.
Of these private rooms for groups, our best room is our deluxe suite (Deluxe 5 Bed Private) which can fit a group of 5.
The room comes with air-conditioning, fan, small kitchen with microwave, Cable TV, and small fridge.

Our private chalets (Deluxe Double Bed Private) are a great option for 1, 2 or 3 guests. The room includes a queen-size bed and air-conditioning.

All bathrooms are shared bathrooms with the exception of our chalets and deluxe suite, which include a private bathroom.

Pura Vida Hostel is situated within walking distance between some of the most famous beaches in the world.
Less than a 1 minute walk lands you in front of Lifeguard Tower 5 (Posto 5) of Copacabana Beach and within 10 minutes, you will find yourself in Ipanema and Arpoador Beach with a fantastic view of the famous mountains of Dois Irmãos and Gávea!

We are 5 min away from Metro Station (General Osório - Exit D) and from the main bus lines. We have easy access from our house to all Rio points of interest.

The atmosphere and culture here was amazing! Although most of the visitors here were from Brazil or Chile and there was a big language barrier we all made the most of it and created amazing friendships from it! The staff were some of the nicest people I’ve met- so welcoming and willing to help whenever required. Although it’s located at the start of a favela we didn’t run into any trouble but it’s always best to be on the cautious side.

It’s a very unique place in Rio. Next to the best beaches and night life! They were all about the safety procedures because of corona virus.

We stayed at a private room and everything was ok!! The room was clean and as it is shown at the pictures. The commons areas of the hostel we perfect to hang out and chill and the kitchen had basic staff but it was clean and organized. The stuff were great! A very good group of people who were always trying to break the ice and make you comfortable. It felt like a i was guest at a house a of big group of friends, than a hostel. I totally recommend this place.

This was my first ever hostel. I would definitely recommend it and stay there again. The staff are extremely friendly and the other guests even more so. No need to worry that it’s at the bottom of a Favela. The free walking tours are amazing that the hostel put on and if Paulina takes you your in safe hands. I also had Miqueias take me on a private tour and that was incredible. Thank you everyone at Pura Vida I’ll see you when I return.

Right in the heart of the Copacabana, Pura Vida boasts a great location for a more authentic Rio. The Staff were friendly and helpful offering lots to do and see in the local area and the overall vibe of the hostel was young, playful and welcoming. The facilities were basic but you still get value for money. My only grievance was with the loud bar music that blasted until midnight every night leaving you wanting for sleep. If you’re there for partying, it may be your thing.

Bare bones on the edge of a safer favella near the beach. Showers/bathroom/kitchen pretty icky; beds are rickety and every room has a door which sounds a little beeping alarm every time it opens and every time it closes.

Worst hostel I have ever stayed in. The atmosphere is awful. The place is outdated. Extremely dirty and the beds are filthy. The receiptionist/owner is so ignorant. Does nothing to help, very rude and would be on his phone and make you wait 5 minutes until he finished scrolling on his Facebook before he answered your question. Awful place. The only hostel after a 6 month south American trip that I didn't like. The police also had to come when 2 of the workers started fighting with eachother.
